I have tried everything that people have suggested but nothing works. it keep saying cannot communicate and the light is constantly blinking. cartridges act like they dont wanna move. i can't even get to them to take them off without having to pull on the tape. i've uninstalled and installed a few times. turned it off, unplugged the cords and made sure they were plugged in right and still nothing. now what should i do?

You've encountered 1 of the many issues with Vista. The OS is so gargantuan that Microsoft had to ax many of the drivers that were included with XP.
Copy & paste the above URL into your web browser & that will take you right to the driver download page. Select the red highlighted "Driver Download" for the 1200 series printers. This will send you to the Operating System selection page. Once selected you'll see the red highlighted .exe file. Select "download now". You should see a pop-up asking you to save the file. I like to send downloads to the desktop to facilitate installation of the software. You can later drag & drop it into whatever folder you like.
Make sure to remove the XP drivers before installing the Vista drivers. Also remember to unplug the USB cable from the printer prior to installing the Vista drivers. The installation software will prompt you when to re-install the USB cable.

Also, check your port settings in Windows' Device Manager. Right-click My Computer on your Desktop (or click System from the Windows Control Panel), click Properties, and select the Device Manager tab. Click the plus sign (+) to expand the Ports menu item and view Properties for your Printer Port (LPT1). Verify that the port is working properly and it is enabled, and that you have the appropriate drivers installed. USB (Universal Serial Bus) printer cables can also come loose, and they often conflict with other devices. Remove any USB peripherals and try again. Next, check your printer status by right-clicking its name in the Printer window. Is it online? Is it your default printer? If another printer (or even a printing program, such as a virtual fax printer or Adobe Acrobat distiller) has taken over the default role, you may be printing to the wrong place without realizing it.

I was printing a homework assignment from my professor, I received an error message that something may be invalid with what he sent. I tried to print and everthing just jammed, the cartridges are stuck to the right and noting will move. I have turned it on and off and even unplugged it from the Computer, but when restarted nothing still happens there is still no communication with my omputer. Is it shot or can still use it? Thanks Rebbec
