Question about Western Digital 500GB ELEMENTS 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
The power LED on the AC adapter is on until you put the powerconnector to de external drive.
The LED goes out and nothing else is happening.
It's not a new hard drive casing that you need, rr_atl, it's a replacement power supply. Western Digital is well know for selling very poorly manufactured power supplies with this hard drive series. The problem you described is a bad power brick.

Same thing happened to me. Took it to Geek Squad and turns out that I need a new hard drive casing.
