Sure first I need a few questions that have to be answered! This is an easy one! I need to know if we are working with Laptop or desktop? That makes a world of difference, as long as the drive works you can get the data, it is when the drive does not respond you cannot get the info, this procedure is costly.

But if you have a desktop or even a laptop it can be done you may just have to purchase a few things if it is a laptop because a laptop only has room for one HD, a desktop has room for to which will allow you to slave out the drive. When you slave out the hard drive it allows the CPU to be bypassed, it will read the drive as storage only. A few things need to be done in order to have this occur! You must pull the jumper off of the old drive the one you are trying to transfer information. This will keep conflict from the new one reading or trying to be the master.
Try placing the new HD into your PC removing the plasic cap off of the back of the HD. Place the HD into the desktop the same way the new one is. You should have a power connection and a peripheral cable that connects the HD. Once your remove that black plastic cap off of the old drive and place it into your machine with everything powered off and uplugged of course. When booted up it will recognize the drive as a slave drive. You can then extract any photos or files from that drive, by dragging them into any folder you wish! If you need a walkthrough just drop me a line. It is pretty simple. Most places do not like doing the work because it is time consuming. It is very simple, he could have burned your files to a CD or DVD. Would have been less the headache!

You can try to get an enclosure for you hard drive so that it will work just like a thumb drive then you'll be able to get your files or you can bring your laptop to a local repair shop and get it check if it can still be repaired or if they can extract the files from it.

Hope this helps!

If retreiving data is not your expertise, I suggest you take it to a local computer guy and extract it. The drive could possible be corrupt or password protected. Try best buy.

Noise from the hard Disk not a very good Sign.

Try the device on a friends or a relatives PC. if you have the same result , you might be having a defective HDD. best would be to take it to a local repair shop for recovery of DATA. ( if you have warranty now would be a good time to use it)

I have a hard drive with all my pictures on it and my computer not reading the hard drive when it plug in how can i send it in to get it fix it a smartdisk 160gb

Always try the simple first- connect the drive to a different computer, then if that does not work, try a new cable to the old computer then to the different computer. If still No Go, many local big box retail stores like Best Buy have a computer repair desk. Be prepared for $$ charge, however.

WD portable HD light is on when plug in to USB port. Computer fails to recognize the device. Serial Number: WXE507155627 Model Number: WDXMS1600TN

Hi,

There are a few reasons this would happen, The options are a faulty driver in your PC, a failed circuit board in the enclosure or a failed circuit in the drive itself.

First try the drive on a different PC and see if it works. If it does reply back and we can look into the failed driver. If it doesn't then take it to your local PC shop and have the technicians move the hard drive into a new enclosure.

If it works in the new enclosure buy the enclosure and your on the way. If it doesn't, then the hard drive itself is the problem. If that is the case you will need the help of a data recovery pro to retrieve your data. If this is the case reply with your location(Country, State and City) and I will assist you in finding a reputable pro to assist you.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Any professional computer repair shop will have the equipment necessary to extract the data from a corrupted or otherwise 'dead' drive. The cost is usually no more than $100.00 unless a replacement hard drive is part of the deal. This is your best bet to safely recover data.

My laptop is broken and i need to retrieve my photo albums. how can i do this

You will need to have someone pull the hard drive out of the laptop and extract the data from it. Chances are the data is still fine and can be retrieved. Your best bet is to find a local mom and pop type shop that can do this for you.

Startup errors

Does sound like a Hard Drive failure. I would suggest getting it **** checke, but you can't because of your circumstance to fix any errors or corrupted files on there.

So, here are a few things you could do.

Take it to a local Computer shop, have them remove the HDD, extract what data you need and if they can, and replace it with a new one.

Take it to a local Computer shop, and have them remove the HDD and try to reformat it. - It might work if the files are corrupted, but the actual HDD it self is fine.

When it's a Hard Drive, there's not much you can do when it fails. That is why you always back it up.

There would be no other solutions available, so good luck mate!

Try checking your power cord adapter.
I found the same problem was with the cord.
Luckily, I had another Acomdata HD cord to check the problem.
