Grease, I would recommend going to and typing in your model number so you can download an operators manual and it also discusses the lubrication for the tool. Let me know and if I have helped you with your request would you please rate this response accordingly and thank you.

Where do I ad oil to a makita hm1500 demolition hammer

Go to, put your model number in search box in the top right. Two models of the HM1500 will come up, select yours and open the owner's manual. Find the paragraph labeled 'Lubrication' and follow it precicely. Demo hammers are very picky about what type of grease they use and how much. Too thick and they won't work, too thin and they won't lubricate properly and the parts inside are very expensive to replace. Same applies to how much to use.

this tool does not require daily maintenance, but if the grease needs to be refilled it takes 60g/2oz of hammer grease part number A-90582. This is packaged in 1oz tubes. They also show oil and that part number is 181118-7. If you go to their site "" you can download or look at the section on maintenance and it shows you how to fill the reservoir. Good luck.

What kind of oil does a makita 80 pound jack hammer use

Makita recommends using their brand of Makita Hammer Grease if you are doing the lubrication yourself.
You did not indicate a model number but all of their hammers have simliar instructions, 2 oz of grease, do not overfill which can cause faulty hammering or tool failure.

I need to look at a manual for Makita HR2510 Rotory hammer I think I need to add oil but Im not sure where to put it. Theres a sign on it, a red circle with line through, telling me not put in top port...

There should be a balck pastic cap on top of the metal housing, just infront of the handle. It has two small holes on it. Use a pin spanner or bent nose pliers in the holes to undo this cap (normal thread). this will give you acces to the top of the crank and con-rod only. This does take oil/light grease but it will not spread through to the reduction gearasa t the top of the motor.
What problems are you experiencing with your machine, if it is lack of hammer power it could also be down to worn o'rings or even hammer pipe if it is an older tool. Extra oil or slightly thicker grease will only delay the inevitable if this is the case and I would recomend a full service in this situation as once one ring starts to go the others will soon follow.

Makita 8406C Gearbox oil

It uses grease to lube the gearbox. makita supply their own grease so you should be able to get a small tube from your local dealer. You don't have to use Makita grease though, just general grease should be fine. Not too thick and heavy, or too oily and light. I know that sounds a bit vague. Do you have other machines that you have grease for? SDS hammer drills, saws, any small power tool like that will use a similar type of grease.
