You have a bad seal or you have a hole in it from something getting in there and wearing out the housing, it is dangerous to use with the water leak so I suggest you replace it it's not that big of job or call a plumber. If the water gets near the electric and you have metal pipes you could get shocked. Look to see if it's coming from the gasket housing where there is a clamp that holds it together.

These holes are from the manufacturer not something wearing out the housing.

Make sure the seal is tight where the unit attaches to the sink. It may appear that the unit is leaking elsewhere but is not. If you are sure it is leaking at the case, check for cracks or you could have a bad pump seal internally, in which case the unit should be replaced.

1) Copy following link for troubleshoot and parts resources, and manuals with warranty information:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-repair-and-install-Garbage-disposal.html

2) New unit would be best solution. And possibly cheapest solution. Otherwise you might be installing and un-installing more than once or twice ... which is fun if you have time, and other housemates don't mind kitchen project tools, water and mess.

3) If you can disassemble the disposal, you might be able to make your own gasket using kits and sealant from local auto parts .... assuming the metal was not mis-cast during manufacture and is warped so it never seals.

I have the Badger 5 in sink erator under sink food disposer and it is leaking from a small on the bottom of the unit. How can I repair the unit?

Disposal is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
If you plug the hole, the motor compartment will fill with water and short out the electric.
I wrote ez replacement steps from when I worked apartment maintenance:

I had a similar problem, a plastic meat wrapper got in the disposal. The wrapper got down under the grinder plate and then wrapped around the motor arbor. Unfortunately this bent the shaft and cause the seal to not work. There was no way to repair it, I had to replace the disposal.

I have a Badger 5 InSinkErator and it is leaking, not from the bottom but from a leak hole in the top side middle of the unit. I can see the water coming out of the hole. Can it be plugged? the unit works...

There should be no leaking to the outside of the motor. If there is a weep hole, it would indicate there is a seal problem between the cutter blade shaft and the motor. Contact ace hardware and see if theycan give you a little more information on this unit.

Insinkerator Disposal Badger 5 Plus 5 Leaking From Top

I believe that schroud is a noise insulator, it is installed aroung the grinding chamber to minimize the grinding noise, the part below that is the motor.

Now for the leak, if it were me I would remove the disposer from the sink, really not a big deal and see if I could remove the sound insulator, I would presume then taht you would see signs of where the leak is eminating from.

Seeing that the disposer doesnt leak when it 's not running I think it can be repaired at home using a two part epoxy patching material used for marine pourposes.

It's worth a try, the worst thing that can happen is that you are out a little of your time.
