Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop

1 Answer

I have an acer aspire 3680 2682 that wont boot. when i press the power button, the lapttop starts up but then it stops. sounds like it shuts down but theres still power. the battery and ppower light is green. fan kicks off about 10 seconds after i try to power on. the two top lights on the left hand side flash but the cpu light never comes on. i tried starting with batter, ac adapter, removing battery and holding power button for a minute. i also tried removing and swapping memory modules. it seems to have power, i can open/close cd drive and the power and battery lights stay green until i hold down the power button to shut it off.

Try also taking out the hard drive and the dvd drive to make sure that they aren't shorting out the motherboard.

Also try another stick of memory besides the one that came with your laptop to be sure the memory isn't bad.

If after you do these steps you still can't get video then your motherboard is bad.

Shut down your computer completely. Once it has been turned off, press the power button to the "On" position to restart the system. Within the first 10 seconds, press down and hold the F2 button for about three seconds and then release it. Within five to 10 seconds after pressing and holding this button, you should see the BIOS setup screen on the monitor.

Acer 5742g Beep at boot up

I have a problem that looks like this one.

At boot up, after the POST, each time the HDD led blinks, the laptop produces a loud "beep", and refuses to boot, as if this phenomenon prevented the HDD to be read.

If I press the power button, it stops beeping. When I release it, it starts beeping again.

If I press F8 at the beginning and then ask for a normal boot, It boots normally. Anyway, in windows, I have some strange activity, like I would continually pressing Alt+Tab. If I press Esc, it stops immediately and then all seems to work fine.

Any clue?

If what has happened is true, then the previous owner had killed the BIOS. He has tried to FLASH the BIOS and it failed. This then renderes the motherboard DEAD. Your only option is to try and find a replacement motherboard.
