Question about RCA DRD485RG DirecTV DTV Receiver

Open Question

Only Local Channels are affected by the Searching for Signal 771

I too have the Searching for Signal (771) error message. It has only been happening since the switch to All Digital. We had the HD receiver installed before the switch, so I know that the problem isn't that we have an old receiver. VERY FRUSTRATING. Most everything I watch is on my Local CBS Station. They have currently been out for three days. The last time they were out I sent a tech question to DirecTV and never received an answer, but the local channels were suddenly there again, about 24 outs after I sent the help. WEIRD.

Hi, There could be a couple of reasons, primary probably is signal strength. Depending on your antenna direction and the transmitter location it may be a dead spot which can be fixed by moving the antenna slightly and rescanning. If you need further help please get back to me. Good Luck! Hope this Fixsya!

searching for satellite signal means its not getting a connection between the satellite and the receiver itself. you can check on the back of the receiver where the satellite cables comes in, unplug the satellite cable make sure there is a copper pin sticking striaght up there to make sure its getting a good connection. also if you know where your splitter is, it has a few lines coming in and a few coming out, its somewhere between the dish and the receivers. usually in an attic or basement, or it could be at the dish itself. make sure those lines are tight, no cracks or breaks in the lines. also if your dish is easily accessible check the connections at the dish to make sure none of them have come undone or loose.

I cannot receive local channels. I have the VIP622 DVR Box. Help!

Hi, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Customer Service here. I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. In order to help you I would need a little more information on the issue. On your local channels are you seeing an error message or are the local channels skipped over completely? There are a few different basic trouble shooting steps that you can try in order to fix this issue. The first step to try is a reset, you can do this by unplugging the receiver from the wall outlet for 10 seconds. If this does not resolve your issue you are going to want to try checking the guide to make sure the list is not on ALL HD or on a personal list. The next step to try is running a check switch test which will also check the signal you are acquiring. You can do this by pressing menu 6-1-1, then select check switch then test. Once you have allowed the test to run you may see an 836 error message, if you do select cancel, do not save. If none of these options work or you do receive the 836 error message we may have to do further trouble shooting and send out a tech to your home. Please email me directly at Cheri.Torres@dishnetwork.com and I would be happy to help you further. Thanks

We need more specific information about the problem you are experiencing on the channel you are trying to view. Are you getting an error message? Is it happening only on the one channel or multiple channels? If it is only happening on one channel, there may be an issue on the channel itself. If it is happening on multiple channels, there may be an issue with the signal off the satellite to your receiver. Please provide more information. I hope this helps.

My VIP722 DVr keeps showing that I have a complete loss of signal. This goes for awhile and can receive no HD channels. By going to DVR I can then go to guide and get SD channels only. But then after...

Hello this is Nick Franta with DISH Network.

What error message are you receiving on your screen? There should be a 3 digit number in the top right of the message. Has there been any bad weather in the area which may have affected the signal?

If you haven't been advised to already, I would suggest doing a hard reset of the receiver by unplugging it from the outlet for 10 seconds. When you plug it back in the receiver will reboot itself for you. If you are still getting errors hit the menu button then 6-system setup, 1-installation, 1-point dish, and then hit check switch and then test. All your satellites should show green. If not we would need to send a tech out to address the issue.

Hope this helps!

New customer. Installed yesterday. Worked fine last night. Turned on today, all I get is searching for signal on satellite in 2.... (771).

Go to your menu and find your signal strength bar. It's possible that your dish has shifted. The bar should read at least 60% or above.

Have Direct TV using a Sony Digital Satellite receiver model #SAT B2-2 /Sony Satellite dish purchased in 7/97. I get local channels thru Direct TV. Recently, local channels will show on the Direct TV guide...

Your dish is out of alignment. The local channel satellite doesn't have as strong of a signal, so a slight misalignment will cause problems.

It could also be an F-connector needs to be replaced at the dish or multiswitch (if you have one). Sometimes moisture builds up inside the connector and corrodes the copper stinger inside.

If you go into your satellite signal strength menu and find the local channel satellite, you're sure to see either a weak signal or an intermittent one.

One more thing, if a tree has grown in the line of sight between the dish and the satellite, this will cause signal problems too. In this case, you either have to trim the tree or move the dish.

Hope this helps!

P.S.
The customer service reps at DirecTV usually idiots reading from a script with no real field experience.

I had this same issue recently. Unplug the receiver, for approx 30 seconds and after you plug it back in, it should receive the signal and boot up when you turn it on.
