Have you tried going to www.murray.com and then find a dealer. Call them and ask if it is right belt. If you have the old belt there should be number stamped on it. If you have the number and you can't find a belt try a mower repair shop and they can cross ref it and get new number if it has been changed.
Then when you put the new belt on make sure you have the right belt and then it should be fairly easy to route the belt if you put the back of the belt (flat side) up against the larger in height idler pulleys and the smaller (v) in the smaller pulleys. The belt should be snug when on properly.

let me know if this helps.
Thanks

I need a deck belt routing diagram

Hi Terry:
If you Google your make and model with the key words "deck belt routing diagram" you should get the specific info.
You can also follow the general logical approach which is:
- The "vee" of the belt fits in the "vee of the pulleys.
- The flat side of the belt goes on the flat idlers.
- The tension idler is the one with the spring on it.
Think of it as a puzzle with those rules and it won't take you long to solve.
Here's a link that may assist you.

Get the model number off the tractor, go to:

www.murray.com

enter the model number and you will find a manual with pictures of how to route the belts along with a lot of other good information

Just need to now how the drive belt goes. My belt

I don't have a diagram but it shouldn't be to hard. You will have to drop the deck. Then when installing the new belt remember to always place the inside of the belt (V) into the pulleys and the outside of the belt (flat side) up against the larger idler pulley. When you have the belt on properly it should be snug. If you have excessive play you need to try a different routing2.gif around the idler.

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

The newly purchased deck belt turning the blades is extremely loose

If idler is in tact and spring attached, it is likely that the belt isn't routed properly. If you try to route the rear-most portion of the belt around the idler, it will be loose. You must route the front-most portion of the belt around the center blade pully and then around the idler. Just Google "MTD 46 inch deck diagram" and you will go to a Parts Tree site with the proper diagram showing routing.
