Question about Epson Stylus RX425 Multifunction All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Continual poor quality prints. I have to clean the heads daily

The printer is situated in an a/c room, so the temperature is not tooh igh, but the heads seem to dry out almost every day. If I don't use it for 1-2 days, then I have to clean the heads before I can use it. Sometimes I have to clean the heads more than once.
Perfect quality is a rarity, and the cartridges have a very short life - presumably because of the repeated cleanings.

The reservoir might be really dirty from the ink. You can try cleaning it with a Q-TIP. It could get messy. Turn the printer off first.

The printer senses the outside temperature of the room and will give this error when the room temperature is cold. If the print quality is affected, you may need to relocate the printer to a warmer room!

To clean the print head from the control panel
1.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. Touch Setup on the display.
3. Touch Tools.
4. Touch Clean Print Head.
The HP Photosmart cleans the print head and prints a page that you can recycle or
discard.

To clean the print head from the HP Photosmart Software

Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click
Printer Toolbox.
NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog
box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click
Service this device.
The Printer Toolbox appears.
3. Click the Device Services tab.
4. Click Clean the Print Head.
5. Follow the prompts until you are satisfied with the quality of the output, and then click

Poor Quality Print on Zebra 105SL direct thermal

How many labels has the printer printed? Because it sounds to me like you just need to replace the print head.

They are around $400 from whomever your supplier is, and very easy to replace.

Sometimes you need to perfom 1 or 2 head clenaings to prime the printer with the new ink.

The cleaning will clean your heads and refill the ink.

How to clean noxxles, heads, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by lines, but I had poor print quality and even a "ker-chunk" noise in the middle of the print head travel. On these HP printers, there is a strip of plastic with very small stripes printed on it that runs through the back of the print head. This is a linear encoder that lets the printer know the position of the print head. This gets dirty and the optical "eye" can't see the transitions of the lines on the strip. Clean it with some iso-alcohol and water and you should be all set to go.
