I have a electric dryer Model WED5810SW0 THAT I WAS TOLD I COULD CONVERT TO 120V from 240v is this true and if so how do i do this?

If you consider doing this the first thing is SHUT THE MAIN BREAKER OFF. Use an auxiliary light source to see when working in a dead panel. Always keep in mind an ARC FLASH ACROSS HOT MAINS HAS ENOUGH HEAT TO PEAL THE SKIN OFF OF YOU. Before an explanation of how to do it you should keep in mind that this is for a single receptacle only. If any other receptacles are on the same circuit they will also be changed to 240 volt receptacles and if you plug any 120 volt device into them, the 120 volt device will be destroyed. That said OK, any 120 volt outlet can be changed to 240 volt by removing the 120 volt circuits neutral, re identifying the white wire with red or black phase tape and connecting it to a new 2 pole 15 amp breaker. The maximum that this circuit will now load up to is, on #14 wire at 80% = 12 amps at 240 volts. The 120V receptacle must be changed to a 15A - 240V receptacle so that 120 volt devices can not be plugged into it. Never use 2 single pole breakers together because code requires that on a fault trip both legs of the 240V circuit must be disconnected simultaneously. Maytag Neptune dryer will not turn on...has at least 110 electris coming to it... shows a digital display .8.8 ...

you need 240volts for it to run and heat, the timer and motor are each on their one side of 110volts and the element needs 240volts to heat,so if the motor runs or the timer runs but not both and it doesnt heat your missing one of the 110 to 120volt phases, check the homes power panel it will have either a tandem pole 30 amp breaker or 2 30 amp fuses and one of them will be bad(open) the breaker may look like its not tripped, but sometimes one leg will open and not show, turn it off and back on then check for 240volts at the dryer

Maytag Neptune Dryer purchased in 2001, Display shows 88, wont start . Can it be fixed?

There are 3 ways i know to make the machine work. Press and try all buttons to see if it clears up, Put a heating pad over the display for a few minutes. if these don't work. You will need a new display unit.
Hope this helps.

No power @ Dryer receptacle

Turn off breaker, Check and tighten lugs that feed dryer circuit at the breaker and at the receptacle, If that doesn't fix your problem you ll have to trace the wiring from breaker to dryer for broken wires.

The prong on the electricle from the dryer is shaped differently then the wall outlet

You need to get a matching dryer receptacle rated fro 220V and 30 Amps (in the US).
Make sure you have the power off before attempting to replace the old dryer receptacle.

I have seen many dryers connected to oven receptacles in the past. While incorrect this is not dangerous because the oven receptacles are usually 50-60 amp.

Paying a local licensed electrician $50/hr is a fair & safe way to make sure your dryer receptacle is installed correctly.
