PNY Optima 2gb SD Card Write-Protection Problem

My computer (windows vista) says that my card is writeprotected, but the switch is in the correct position. I'm reading the card using a Targus High Speed SD/SDHC/MMC reader/writer. The Canon 32mb card (came with my digital camera) is woking fine - write protected when the switch is on, not write protected when its off - but the PNY Optima 2gb SD card says its write protected no matter what position the swicth is in. I'm guesing its a physical problem with the switch that I won't be able to resolve, but I'm hoping there is SOMETHING else I can do...

I noticed something else after posting -
The SD card works fine in my digital camera. Lets me take pictures and delete them, but it still doesn't work in the USB reader/writer. Lets me view files and copy from, but if I try to delete or add it says its write protected. I flipped the switch - still says write protected (and now the camera tells me the card is locked) flip it back and it works in the camera but windows still says write protected. It's the same reader/writer I've been using and it worked with this card before, and it works with my other SD card. This just doesn't make any sense to me.

tried posting a comment, but I can't see that it got posted so I'll try again. I just found out that the card works fine in my camera. Lets me take and even delete pictures. But windows still says its write protected. Flip the switch and now the camera tells me the "card is locked" AND windows says write protected. I've used this card with this same reader/writer before without problem so I'm sure it's not an incompatibility issue. And the reader/writer works fine with my other (32mb) SD card. I already tried the obvious - turning off the 'read-only' property, formatting it (via windows,) every option gives me the same response. And btw, I don't have access to true DOS, just dosbox.

thanx Is, but the problem had me more perplexed and curious than actually concerned. It cost all of 12 bucks, and it still works fine in my digital camera (for now at least.) I just think the whole thing is very strange. I'll take it to shop and see if they wanna format it, see if that works. Thanx again

I suggest you to give the SD card to a computer shop and ask them to format and give it to you, probably they wud do it for you, I dont think it will cost u anything. This is how far we can go with this problem.

    Thankyou

If ur planning to discard the card then i think before u make any physical damage to it, you could probably think of sending the card to me so that i could try my level best to repair it for you.

    Thankyou

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I have a PNY optima sd 2gb memory card and it tells me on my samsung camera card error. What does this mean?

My Sanyo camera says my sd card it full when it absolutely is not. Ive even tried uploading pictures to my computer and it tells me there is an issue. It just suddenly did this one day and I think I've lost about 150 photos from Easter and other things that I can't get back and worse I can't take any pictures with my camera now.
