Laptop hinges are loose

The hinges can be loose in two different areas, but the most popular is the hinge attachment point behind the screen bezel. Remove the rubber screw covers from the bezel, remove the screws, take your finger nailas and from the inside of the bezel pull gently to the outside to release the catches on the screen lid. Start on one side and work your way around the screen until the bezel pops loose. Look at the bottom of the screen and you will see the hinge attachment points. Tighten them up. If you have some locktite this would be a good time to apply it, remove the screws one at a time and replace. To replace the bezel, always start at the bottom and work your way up.

Replacing Screen Back Light inverter on a HP Pavilion ze2401xt

The inverter is located behind the bezel between the hinges.
After removing the bezel screws, the bezel will still be secured tightly, there are retaining clips that fixe it to the lid and may also be held in place with double sided tape. You need to slip a thin blade between the bezel and the LCD screen and gently lift the bezel off the LCD screen. Start at the bottom near the hinges and gradually work along each side. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH THE LCD SCREEN.

Removing the LCD from a Compaq CQ60-215DX

I have a CQ60-220US HP Compaq and access to the LCD screen was different than others I have disassembled and replaced the display. The bezel is snapped on, the lid does not lay back flat to access the two hinge screws, but there are 2 screws with rubber covers down by the hinges, not all the way around.

I used a right angle phillips screw driver and was able to remove the bottom screws, popped off the bezel the remainder of the way around the screen, it is different, but don't be fooled there are a few screws just not the amount you might be used to, and then gaining access to one of the hinge screws on each side can be an issue as the lid did not lay back flat, but with a good right angle screw driver you can get it done, I did. I am not sure if the proper method is to not just remove the entire top cover and hinges, but the right angle screw driver and finding that this model had only a couple bezel screws made it much easier to tackle.

Change Compaq V6120us cpu battery

I believe that the cmos battery for your particular laptop is located under the keyboard. You must first remove the plastic bezel between the F keys and the monitor hinges. See if there is a little screw from the back that goes through the hinge covers. If so, remove them. There should also be 2 screws underneath the battery that goes to the center of the bezel. Remove these.

Now you can use a small object (tiny screwdriver or the like) to pry up one corner of the bezel, and it should pop right off. There are 3 or 4 screws just above the F keys of the keyboard that have to come out. Slide the keyboard towards the hinges, and it will come out. Carefully remove the ribbon cable from the motherboard, and remove any cover that is there. Walla, the cmos battery should be right in front of you now, so go ahead and change it. Reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Need to replace lcd screen

Sure you can, and it is pretty simple. First off, you want to remove the bezel that is between the F keys and the monitor hinges. There may be a little screw on the back side of each hinge cover, and also under the battery if the battery is below the hinges. Once you pry the bezel off, you can remove the little screws that are under the round covers on the glass side of the monitor. There should be 4 or 6 of them located on the monitor bezel. Once you remove these, you can separate the bezel on the glass side from the back of the monitor. There may be 2 or 4 screws that hold the LCD to the hinges that will have to be removed. Now you will be ready to unplug the monitor from both the motherboard and the inverter. Replace the new LCD in the reverse order.

New LCD's can be purchased from Ebay at a reasonable cost.

Backlight Inverter.

In my experience, the inverter is usually located at the very bottom of the display assembly (nearest where the hinges connect). You'll have to remove the bezel from the display to access the inverter board. Refer to pages 121-125 of this assembly manual. It doesn't discuss the inverter board directly, only how to remove the display (if you haven't already). The bezel on the display may have a few screws (behind rubber pads, usually), but the rest of the bezel should pop apart.

How do I replace the LCD screen hinge on my IBM T41?

I'm sure you could get these hinges from IBM, but no idea as to their cost. They are available on e-bay for $8-$35 (depending on whether you want 1 or a set) plus $8-$10 shipping.

As far as replacement. You will have to remove the Top cover assembly from the base of the PC. If you need help with that, just let me know and I'll talk you through that.

To replace the hinge, you will have to disassemble the Top cover assembly. The screws that you will need to remove are covered by small black adhesive covers. There are 3 round ones along the bottom of the bezel, 2 square ones up at the top of the bezel (to the left of the white LED keyboard light, and 6 (trapezoidal shaped) on the outside of the cover (3 on each side). Carefully remove those covers and the screws that are under the covers. Keep track of where the screws should go back in.

The actual bezel is held into the top cover with some internal snaps. Start at one of the corners, run a knife blade along the seam (between the cover and bezel) and you will hear each fastener "snap" as you slide the blade past it. Once the bezel is loose, lift it off of the LDC screen. There is one additional screw that is located up in the upper right hand corner. That one will need to be removed, also.

Gently lift the right hand side of the LCD assembly a couple of inches and place something of appropriate size to hold it in the raised position. You will see 2 additional screws that hold the hinge to the LCD assemble. Remove those and the old hinge will come right off.

Position the new hinge and replace the two screws that you had just removed. Reverse the removal sequence to reassemble the display.

Before you start snapping the bezel back into place, check to make sure that the two cover catches (those hook things, up at the top of the LCD assembly) are both operational. The link going to the left hand one tends to easily fall off.

This procedure should take in the neighborhood of 45 minutes to an hour.
