Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Water not draining.

Ok, I have read what I am supposed to do to clean the drain trap. But where the heck is the drain trap? I see the accordian hose going into the pump in back and I see the drain hose coming out of the pump in front. Do I remove the whole pump? I removed the drain hose clip (after disconnecting power and draining the machine), and can not get the hose to come off the pump. Help and please tell me if I need to disconnect the entire pump or if the "drain trap" is seperate.
Thanks!

You will need to remove the front lower axcess panel. There are 3 torx or 7mm Machine screws securing the bottom of the panel. Once the panel is removed you have axcess to the trap. Its the large plastic screw cap. Be ready to catch some water with a shop vac or other means.

hi there.
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.
If the washer won't drain the pump belt might have broken or might have worn out. Check the belt and replace if it shows signs of excessive wear.
Drain Pump
If the washer won't drain water the drain pump might be defective. It's also common for a small sock or other article of clothing to get caught in the drain pump or in the drain hose. Check both for an obstruction before replacing the pump.

The purpose of this device is to trap any foreign materials that make their way down the drain. Normally, the coin trap can be accessed through an access panel. It is designed with the homeowner in mind and is normally easy to clean out.

Got a exsm680cl washer and it reads error drain not draining

Check the leveling of the machine, if not use a spirit level and use rubber sheets to keep it firm. If the drain hose is detached the water must freely flow out in this case. If not adjust the slope.
Also check the drain pump to open and work with good action. If not you need to remove and clean the filter and reset the pump

It will not let the water out or spin I think it is the water pomp how do I change the pump I have a frigidaire tumble action washer

First try pressing the start and cancel buttons for about 3 seconds and see if there is an error code, then you can troubleshoot from there....Have you checked the drain lint trap? It is inside the accordian looking drain hose that attaches the drum to the pump. It may be clogged. Use a wet/dry shop vac to remove as much water as possible. Unplug the machine. then remove front panel and remove clamps to check if it is clogged. Hopefully that is the problem!

Ok, don't fret too bad, help maybe just reading.

Disconnect the drain hose from the sink/garbage disposal, get a big bucket, stick hose in bucket, making sure that end of drain hose does not get lower then the bottom of dishwasher. Turn dishwasher on (to drain mode if possible or just wait for drain mode) and see if water drains like it is supposed to, if not (and drain hose is not blocked with grease) then either drain solenoid is bad, not opening drain trap all the way or your drain pump is defective.

Did you just replace the garbage disposal, common mistake when replacing disposals is failure to remove dishwasher drain plug knockout.

If further assistance is needed, give us the model number of the dishwasher so I know what model I'm working with.

Kenmore washer water pump

If you wish to check the drain pump for obstructions, the following link will give guidance:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

Read through the link thoroughly. The use of a wet/dry shop vac will come in very handy for draining water from the wash tub and minimizing the mess that is associated with cleaning out the drain pump and/or drain lines. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS The clean out reservoir on the drain pump simply unscrews and pulls out.

Washer will not leave the drain cycle

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display then
  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

It's because of a Long Drain condition. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off the code is flashed.
But Note: After 4 minutes the "Sud" error is usually displayed, then 4 minutes later the error code is displayed.

Both the intake and drain lights are flashing

There are several simple solutions, one is reading the instruction manual. Check Intake: is any water entering? is it slow? This machine filters debris from the supply water so check the water intake filter. It is inside the end of the intake hose end against the home. Rinse it clean.
Drain: The same fault appears if the drain is clogged. Check if the lint trap is perfectly clean. Check the impeller (a set of fan blades) behind it spins freely. If buttons or coins get in there they can break off the fan blades and you can't drain water. Check the end of the drain hose if it drains. put it into a bucket or tub basin to observe how strong it pumps. Call Miele if these tips don't work. Be at the machine with Model and Serial number ready.
