Question about Panasonic PT-47WX53 47" Rear Projection HDTV

Arch in color on Panasonic

I just acquired a Panasonic Projection TV from my neighbor; however there is one problem. The bottom of the screen has an arch in the color the bottom is blue and the top arch is yellow. I was doing some reading online that it could be a convergence issue, a magnetic interference issue, or a reflection mirror could be out of place. Any ideas? This is a nice TV that we got free from a neighbor so we definitely want to get it fixed.

I just got this TV from her last night so I'm not really sure what she had stored next to it. She mentioned something about someone vaccuming close to the TV but I'm not sure that matters. I'm not very TV savvy. The TV posted on here is not the actual TV its a Panasonic 51X41 (not sure the exact model number though).

Do you have a magnetic source like a speaker or similar near the TV? Was it like this when you got it or has it happened since?

We have Phillips 55 in rear projection TV and just set our color convergence back to factory settings but we still have an awful picture. Any suggestions? All objects have multiple halo bars on them....

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen may look distorted or warped

Re Degaussing

Now Degaussing and convergence are two different things, if you say its degaussing then you should have just a color differential in a certain area, meaning the color should not be arched, everything that passes through should pass throu only with the changing of color. Now if its a convergence the the color may lift upward in an arch, likely separated from the other colors, Red, Blue,or Green. So now which do you think you have? Deguassing usually give you a highish green color or yellow

One color distorted and not converged

Not an expensive repair, relitively speaking. Both convergence amps need to be replaced, Ic7001 and Ic7002 ( Panasonic p/n# C5aa00000203) are both Stk392-110 Sanyo built Ic's and cost about 25-30 dollars plus labor to install and a slight convergence set-up...
