It is the indicator for the Image Stabiliser mode, as identified by the 'IS' in the name of the camera. This should help to reduce blur and fuzzing in your photographs, especially noticable at higher zoom factors.

How to switch on flash on my praktica slimpix 5200

On the 5240 similar model you press the right hand navigation button on the back of the camera. It has a flash symbol engraved on it but not very clear on mine. The screen goes blank as if nothing happens but it is charging the flash and with fresh batteries will come back in 5sec or so. Then when you shoot it will flash, and there will be a flash symbol showing on the screen.....Press again to alter to fixed rather than auto flash, and again to turn off.

Symbol on screen wont go away

This is just a reminder, that with its current settings, the camera would use an exposure time that is too long for clean hand-held shots.
It does not mean that the shot actually will be blurry, so e.g. if you are using a tripod and shooting a static subject, you can safely ignore it.
To get rid of it, either enable the flash, use better lighting or use a higher ISO setting (which of course produces more noise).

Turn off flash

Hi,

With the camera ready to shoot in Auto mode - you will see a little lightening symbol in the top right hand corner of the screen. This indicates the flash is turned on.

On the left side of the circular dial at the back of the camera you will see a similar little lightening symbol indented into the dial. Simply press on this side of the dial to turn the flash on or off as you desire.

The symbol on the screen will go off when you push this to indicate flash is off and return if you press again to turn it on.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My canon powershot SX100 IS has image stabilizer, but apparently I'm not using it properly. All my pics, even stand still pics, turn out blurred. What am I doing wrong? My sons graduation pics were ruined,...

Image stabilizer (IS) will help you stabilize your shaky hand when photographing static object in dim light environment. When photographing moving things such as humans, camera IS will not and cannot not freeze them unless you use high shutter speed. If your camera allows high ISO and manual shutter speed setting, experiment indoors with it. Just remember, high shutter speed freezes motion and IS can only steady your shaky hand for so long. Tripod can only steady your camera not the subject if the subject is a human being.

An elderly woman in my building gave me a digital camera, a Vivitar Vivicam 3750, a battery recharge pack and a USB cord. She does not have an installation disk (and has no idea what that is) and I want to...

Windows will recognise the camera as a storage device without any drivers or installation disks being installed...just plug it in, turn on the camera and wait till windows recognises it...it will then appear in My Computer as a new driver (E:,F:.G: etc etc).

Right click "My Computer" and choose properties.

Click on "Hardware" from the tabs up the top, then the "Device Manager" button

Click on your computer name (top of the tree list) and you will notice a new button apear up the stop (scan for new hardware)...click on that and then follow the prompts that come up (Found Hardware Wizard)..

Also you can go to

http://www.vivitar.com/support.php and search for your camera and grab whatever software came that was with the camera

Blurred pics / Shutter speed on Fuji A470

Hello
The hand symbol is alerting you that the camera will have to use a slow shutter speed to get enough light into the camera. Try pointing the camera at something bright, and the hand will not show. Therefore, if the hand is on, then you probably need to use the flash.

DSC-W100 "Shaky Hand" icon and taking infrequent pictures

You restarted it by turning it off and on again?

Try re-initializing your camera. Menu --> Setup 1 --> Initialize "OK"

I hope that helps.

As for switching back to camera mode, that could be your selector switch. Mine is weird to, it takes pics fine but the selector switch is touchy and thinks i'm turning it when I'm not. It does this most often in Auto mode, probably because I use it most. You might try putting it in another mode before reviewing pics.

"Shake" warning symbol won't leave screen.

That shake warning will appear whenever the camera is in a low-light situation where the shutter speed is low and the images may blur. If it's coming on even in bright light, maybe you set the shutter speed to a fixed low setting? Either way, you may be able to shut off the warning in the settings of the camera.
