Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders
Hello, I am trying to set up a Sony Bravia LCD TV with a DVD Recorder (RDR-HXD870) and an AV Receiver (STR-DG510).
I currently have it set up as follows: I have HDMI cable from DVD to Receiver and from Receiver to TV. I have a coaxial cable from the DVD to the Receiver. And I can connect the TV to the Receiver via optical or component red/white cords).
So my problem... I can get sound from the TV throught the receiver but no sound from the DVD. The picture comes through perfect. When I set it to the DVD input on the receiver it says it needs to be unlocked (which I discovered meant it was not receiving a digital signal). I have been going backwards and forwards between the manuals for both these parts and cannot figure out how to output the digital signal from the DVD player.
Extra info... In the TV audio setup I have set it to use the av speakers. Also in the DVD audio setup I have set it to Dolby digital, DTS is on and DRC is also on.
I just cant figure out how to get the thing to work... any help would be greatly appreciated!
You have set the settings to output to the coaxial on the dvd player correct? refer to p.138
refer to page 21 and 41 of the receiver manual and make sure you have the dvd player hooked up to the dvd video which should be an RCA connector and looks like it is composite by the picture. Also just so you know if you just purchased this. It's much better to go with onkyo, dennon, or harmon kardon. I personally love onkyo and the features are much easier to work with and much more in depth. They make quality audio equipment. Also the audio quality is much better with these companies over sony. Just look at the THD=Total Harmonic Distortion. So from there I would try a different dvd player even a regular one to see if the digital coaxial is recognized. Make sure your outputting on that player as well. Then if that one doesn't work you know its the receiver that is having the issues. Also if your using HDMI for video through the DVD player. Try not using HDMI. use component or otherwise and see if you can get the digital coaxial working.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance please let me know.
