Need to replace the seal at the differential


There are several seals for the differential. The pinion seal is towards the driveshaft. The rear cover is on the back of the differential.

The rear cover seal is a gasket and can be replaced by removing the rear cover and scraping off the old gasket. Some mechanics make their own gasket out of a liberal application of atv gasket compound. Other mechanics use a stamped gasket and may apply a small amount of cement to one side of the gasket to hold it to the cover.

The cover is bolted on by Torx head fittings.

The pinion seal is another matter. The driveshaft needs to come off. The flange needs to come away from the differential and the seal rides the shaft going into the differential. Some housings require a removal tool.

With either seal, you need to determine the type of differential you have. Limited -slip requires an additive to work in the standard lube. Some require only synthetic gear lube as well as the additive.

A cover gasket is not very hard to replace. The pinion seal can be more difficult. Price the repair.

Do not reuse the differential fluid.

Transfer case keeps blowing gaskets


I need a bit more information I take it this a 4x4 cause when you talk about transfer case it means 4x4 and am I to understand you replaced the transmission and transfer case and tail shaft?

Oil leak on driveway coming from front of engine

Here is the oil leaking Problem Identifying Technique

Engine oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are common.

  • The intake manifold plenum gasket may leak and cause increased oil consumption/burning and a spark knock during acceleration; the gasket should be replaced.
  • External oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets (front or rear), and the rear crankshaft (rear main) seal area are common. The rear main seal is an unlikely source. Normally, the bearing cap mating surfaces (as well as the sealing surface between the oil pan and bearing cap) are the source for the leaks.
  • Engine oil leaks at the distributor can be misdiagnosed as leaks from theintake manifold seal, oil pan gasket, or rear crankshaft (rear main) seal. A revised distributor is available if oil is found inside the distributor.
  • If the oil filter casing shows signs of distortion from excessive oil pressure, theoil pump should be replaced.
  • Often misdiagnosed as a leaking oil filter gasket, the oil filter adapter can seep from between the adapter and engine block.
  • Carbon buildup on the top of the piston is common. As the buildup increases with mileage and over time, symptoms may vary from light ticking, to ticking/hammering, to hammering/knocking noises. Fuel injector cleaner often solves the problem.

    I need to replace oil pump on a 1988 ford bronco 2


    Remove oil pan, making sure to drain oil first. Remove oil pump attaching bolts. Lift off oil pump and withdraw oil pump drive shaft.
    INSTALLATION;
    Prime the new oil pump by filling either the inlet or outlet port with engine oil. Rotate the pump shaft to distribute oil within the pump body. Insert oil pump drive shaft into block dwith the pointed end facing inward. The pointed end is closest to the pressed-on flange. Place oil pump into position with a new gasket and install attaching screws. Tighten the screws to 15-22 foot pounds of tourque. Clean and install the oil pump inlet tube and screen assembly with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts, then replace the oil pan.
    Oil Pan;
    Clean of any debris and replace gasket. Fit the oil pan bolts and tighten in two steps. Start from the rear/left hand side and tighten first, then tighten the bolt in the front/right side. Alternate from rear to front, working from back to front and front to back.

    Rear differential on f150 is leaking,how do i reseal it?(1984 f150 4x4)


    If its leaking from the front where the drive-shaft connects, it needs a new pinion seal. If its leaking from the rear cover you need to remove cover and replace the gasket. If its leaking at the wheels you need to replace the axle seals.

    Transmission is leaking -- what are possible solutions? Leak is getting worse each week -- no slippage of gears. This is automatic w/overdrive.


    clean the tranny bottom to determine whether fluid is coming from the gasket...if so you probably need you change the fluid and filter any way, you can replace that gasket then....make sure that it is tranny fluid, and not engine oil from an oil seal at the front of the tranny....if the leak is in the rear of the tranny replace the rear seal....good luck, hope this helps

    The shaft on the spin basket assembly is not lubricated. The shaft is inserted through the sealed bearings located in the rear outer tub shell. Placing any grease on the shaft would end up in your wash and damage your clothes.

    Super pumps are very easy. If it is a northstar it is more difficult. Super pump. You will need 1 motor, 1 pump seal, 1 diffuser gasket, 1 housing gasket. turn off breaker, disconnect wires -noting whether it is 110 or 220 volts- , unscrew four bolts on back of pump housing (shaft side of motor), pull out motor with rear housing and diffuser (sometimes diffuser sticks inside), on wire side of motor hold shaft with wrench (flathead in some cases, but it is harder), unscrew impeller counter clockwise (like normal screw - you will nee a big pair of channel locks or a strap wrench), there are two pieces of the back housing and once the impailer is off you can remove the half that is closest to the end of the shaft to reveal four more screws, unscrew those four screws. screw back part of rear housing onto new motor. Install new pump seal to front part of rear housing and impeller, slide on front part of rear housing and then screw on impeller while holding shaft on wire side with wrench (only hand tight), replace housing gasket, replace diffuser gasket, slide into front housing and screw in four bolts. If electrical was 110 you will need to move the jumper on the wire end..if it was 220 then just hook kup wires...doesnt matter which is which as long as green or bare goes to the ground screw.

    Leaking tranny fluid from rear of pan.


    You don't specify rear of what. So here are your possible options. If it is the rear tailshaft of the tranny you need to replace the tailseal. A very easy thing to do. If it is the pan , then replace the pan gasket.

    I have changed these without disassembling the unit. Just remove the spring from the gasket, then peel back the gasket to remove the inner spring. This is the easy part, getting the inner spring back on is a pain in the neck, but it can be done. The spring will give you problems either way. Good Luck
