Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 PC Notebook

My DVD player in dell 1501 just keeps starting and stopping

I am taking a class via DVD and the disk is new and clean yet it stops randomly and then freezes and the only thing I can do is open and close the dvd drawer. I am able to get a minute out of it before it freezes again. This was never a problem before. I have owned the computor for 18 months and no one else uses it, and I have hardly used the DVD player but when I did it worked fine. I tried a different DVD and the problem was the same.

Your DVD drive is overheating and untill you replace it your likely to keep getting the same problem. However there are a few methods of fixing it on your own.

  1. First look for better drivers online - this shoud increase the preformance dramatically.
  2. Second there is a chance that your lense is dusty or scrached - go to your nearest supermarket and look for a dvd that cleans dvd players. (these disks have tiny fine brushes that clean dvd player lenses. this may fix your problem all together.
  3. If you cannot do ether of these try to blow the dust out of the lense.

My Blu ray player randomly stops playing movies but all other setting work

Have you made sure the disks are clean and have no marring on them? Blue Ray players are very sensitive to any disk issues. Also have you checked to see if any updated Firmware (the software the system uses to read the movies) has been released for the player? They constantly update the operating software of players and the way the disks are recorded, so regular updating is essential to prevent this type of problem in playback, freeze up is the most common complaint.

Inspiron 1501 DVD RW is tempramental

hardware related probably cause it sounds like the main board inside of that drive is having problems communicating with the motherboard since thats where it connects to.

I would still reset the defaults in the BIOS though to make sure its not a setting that is affecting the drive. If it still acts up then you know its not a BIOS issue.

Get another known good working dvd-rw drive in there then turn on the laptop and that should stop the system from doing the weird lockups, slowdowns etc. Plus when you go into the BIOS it should see the drive as it is properly as well.

Try this, "start" "run" type in "regedit" click the "+" next to "Hkey_Local_machine" + next to "System" + next to "CurrentControlSet" + next to "Control" + next to "Class" click on "4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318" in the right field, right click on "upper filters" click "delete" right click on "lower filters" click "delete" restart computer. Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 1501, died and will not restart

Try to remove the battery and unplug the power supply, then hold down the power button for about 10 seconds. If this doesn't work, it could be that the laptop overheated while watching the DVD.

My sony bdp-s300 discs sticking

try cleaning the lens as you would with you previously owen DVD player. Also make sure the disks are clean. If that doesn't work, try resetting the machine by pressing and holding BOTH the stop and power buttons for about 10-15 seconds.

No Disk

The funny thing about dvd players is they just stop functioning after awhile. I've had mine for 2 years now (4 players before that), and that's a personal record. On the flipside I have a sony dvd burner that won't read CD's!

Really the only thing i can suggest is updating the firmware via cd if it supports it (if you give me your make and model # i can check on it). I would also try different DVD's- like ones that you know used to play. Some newer ones have really aggressive anti-piracy garbage that will keep older players from playing them.
