Question about HP DesignJet 1050c InkJet Printer

HP designjet 1055cm plus: Installed new toner, printheads and printhead cleaner packs and the black one is failing? Said, alignment so reinstalled. Still failing. Help!

    Rylee,
    Thanks but that didn't work. My problem isn't with print quality it's a message saying my black printhead is failing. i put the old one back in and it's working? how long do printheads last? do you need to replace them with every toner replacement or are they a different animal that needs replacing less frequently? maybe i got a bad one from HP and just need to return.

    while it's printing now I"m getting blye (cyan) streaks in some of the black area?

Hello Mr Randy,
here's your solution.
After every firmware upgrade the EEPROM gets resetted, that means it doesn't has the previous alignment values. So, as and when you power on the printer, it would perform the alignment. The issue that you are experiencing is Repeated printhead alignment and the primary reason for this is either one or more printheads are faulty or defective, due to which the printer is not able to complete its alignment. Please perform the cleaning of the printheads either from the System maintance utility or by pressing the button combinations like :

When the printer is in ready mode, press and hold the Power button and while holding the power button press the cancel button twice and then resume (tick) button(i.e, Level 1 (soft recovery) , Press and hold Power and while holding power , press cancel twice and resume once (medium) or , while holding power press Cancel twice and resume twice During this process, it tries to clear the clogged nozzles of the printheads.And then try performing the alignment, check whether it completes the procedure. You would find a blue check mark towards the right hand side bottom of the page. If it doesn't completes, Please replace the printheads which gives you streaks.

That should take care of your issue.

    If earlier doesn't works try this one out


    If your printer is performing a print head alignment at every start-up and tries three times at each session, the printer is telling you there is a failed print head.
    You will not see a flashing print head icon for this error.
    Look at the print head alignment sheet. The last colour printed with an X on the right side is the failing print head.
    The colour order is:
    Black, Cyan
    Black, Magenta
    Black, Yellow
    If the there is an X on the first row, it ie either the Black or Cyan print head. etc.

    Replace the failing print head and the printer will do a print head alignment with all rows have a check mark on the right side.

Thanks for using FixYa. You'll need to clean the printheads as mentioned below--

Cleaning the printhead’s bottom outside casing edges

CAUTION: Do not wipe, rub, or clean the actual nozzle plate of the printheads (along the bottom center portion of the printhead where ink is dispensed). Debris and lint may damage or clog the print head nozzles.

  1. Wipe clean the bottom outer edges and corners of the printhead casing with a damp lint free cloth or damp paper towel until all ink build up is removed. Avoid touching the bottom center portion of the printhead (the nozzle plate) where the ink is dispensed.
NOTE: It is important to clean all of the printheads, even if only the black printhead appears to be causing the problem with smearing. The colored printheads are most likely the cause of the problem. This is especially true with ink smearing across the print path during printing.
  1. After cleaning the bottom edges of the printheads, reinstall the printheads and verify they are in their correct slots and are recognized by the printer.
  2. Leave the window open and continue with the remaining steps.
Cleaning the print head cleaners
To access the Printhead cleaners, lower the access door on the right-hand side of the printer and gently lift up on the front tab of the printhead cleaner and pull out each of the cleaners.
  1. Locate the spittoon on the printhead cleaner, the single large well at the rear of the printhead cleaner, where the printhead “sprays" ink during the cleaning and printing process. Using a damp lint-free cloth or paper towel, wipe clean the top and sides of the printhead cleaner spittoon to remove any ink buildup.

NOTE: The black printhead cleaner does NOT have a sponge. The pigment based black ink does not react well with the sponge; therefore a sponge is not used in the black printhead cleaner. In certain circumstances, users who print predominantly in black or print excessively, magenta ink will build up on the magenta printhead-cleaner sponge. If the ***** of ink surpasses the top ridge of the printhead cleaner, the printheads will have a high probability of being contaminated by the *****. If a ***** is evident, carefully clean out the ***** or replace the printhead cleaner.
  1. Wipe clean the two-black rubber wipers that are vertical, located on the top, rear edge of the printhead cleaner. Wipe clean the single horizontal rubber wiper located at the front of the printhead cleaner. If these are not cleaned, they may contaminate the cleaned printheads.
  2. After cleaning the printhead cleaners and reinstalling them in their correct locations in the Service Station, close the right door and lower the main window.
Verifying print quality
After installing the printheads and their respective cleaners, the printer will run an automatic "Printhead Alignment." After the alignment has finished, print an "Image Quality Print" to verify the printer’s output.
  1. Ensure the printer is loaded with minimum “A3" size media and is at a READY status.
  2. Highlight the Printer setup menu icon (Icon of printer in lower right corner of display) and press ENTER.
  3. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Utilities and press ENTER.
  4. Scroll to Test Prints and press ENTER.
  5. Scroll to Print Quality and press ENTER.
  6. The Image Quality Print will produce a printout that contains three test areas. Use the following section as a guideline for reviewing each of the test areas for possible image quality issues.

I replace the black ink printhead and cleaner for hp designjet 1050c and it keeps telling to reseat the printhead.


This message comes when print head is not fitted or locked properly in the socket, please remove printhead, also check for polythene conver on nozzle that should be also removed.

one of the printheads is bad.....check the error code again,because 060308 does not exist in hp designjet 1055cm plotter.

remove the printhead turn the printer of .clean the contacts on the back of the head and on the printer then re install the head

The HP Designjet 1055cm has 4 ink cartridges, 4 printheads and 4 printhead cleaners. My question is: Will the plotter still work properly if I just install the black ink cartridge along with the printhead...


I doubt it. When the printer powers up, it checks to make sure that all modules are in place and functional. If one is missing, you'll get an error message.

Printhead replacement


I don't just change the printheads, go to utilities and recover printheads.
If all printheads are playing up, che3ck the magenta cleaner, if it's over full it can cause all printheads to fail, this info was taken from a page on the HP web page, but ?I can't remeber where.
