Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The Wall Heater is about 13 years old but has worked well until now. We did have someone look at it I Think he put Gas or something in it. well that worked for about one hour and that was that. He did say that we would probably have to replace the one we have with a new one. Is that true.

There might be many reasons for the non working condition. As it's almost 13 years old, Gas is the main suspect. You already put that and it does not work.

Note - I am taking into consideration that Gas is not a problem. Make sure there is no Gas Leak.

The other 2 main suspects are :-

1. Thermostat
2. Compressor.

If thermostat is an issue, better to get it changed and if compressor is an issue, better to change the wall heater as it would cost you many bucks to repair and specially spending so many bucks on such an old wall heater is not a wise option.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Internal 1/2 psi propane regulator is not passing gas thru so that heater wont light. Are there recalls? Where can I buy a replacement part? Heater is 2 years old, never lit.

What's the pressure to the heater? It should be a minimum of 11 to 13 water column inches. Also, make sure that your heater is in fact a propane fueled heater. Don't go by whats on the box it came in. Look at the manufacturer's tag(s) on the heater. It may be a Natural Gas unit instead of Propane unit. I've seen this happen before. In which case it won't work and can not be converted.

it can go up but is designed to go up wall cavity and unit i supposed to sit with it's back against wall to adapt to a flu that is already there would mean you would have to sit out into room a little bit which could look funny, the only way i can think to do this and look good would be to make a false wall for flu so upou don't see it and it wouldn't have to be built to far into room only far enough to hide flu i would stringly recomend someone to come have a look at it for you as it is acchievable but to make it look half descent if not immaculate job would be to get a specialist on fluing to look for you and advise on options to get it to go to old flu outlet may be something you can do but i don't think it would be a good idea as you would have to either bring heater far enough forward to go straight up it as wood heater flu would have been a fair distance of wall for clearance's, or the other way would be to bring flu behind heater then elbow out to get over to old flu exit, so get someone to look at it for you as you want to also put into a place where it will heat efficiently too!

It sounds like the thermocoupler is either not adjusted into the flame properly, or you may have gotten a bad one. The thermocouple is the main thing that makes the pilot work.

any and i mean any ac and heat company you call in the yellow pages can and will be happy to repair yor heater. parts are all generic. problem is the heat exchanger needs to be tested every year with a co detector so no one gets killed. thats pretty blunt but hey its true. gas is nothing to play around the gas company and they will usually test it for you. maybe for free. all heaters work the same. stat says heat , if pilot is lit then thewrmocouple senses heat and oks main gas valve to open then burner lights and a while later blower comnes on and blows hot air into house. question is , are air and chimmney gases mixingin furnace? test with co detector.does flame lift on burners? observe and compare with your previoys observations. my gut feeling is that consummer reports says 9 to 13 years is a life span on a ne wunit , your messing around with a old piece of equipment. it doesn't care about your finances, it will fail and harm you when its time comes reguardless ....

I can suggest a around-about solution. I also have the same model installed around the same time. I have the outlet that it is connected to controlled by an electric heat thermostat on a wall at the oposite side of the room. I keep the heater on high at all times and the thermostat controls the electricity to the outlet. It's worked great for the 13 years it's been installed.
