Veritcal yellow line on 50" sceptre tv

The edge ribbon connector may not be connecting (on the inside of the tv). Cure is foam strips between screen edge connecters and inside cover. Or, Memory chip (used to make the picture appear), may be bad. All flat panel tv's use a memory chip to make picture appear (it is digital after all). And if memory chips are bad, picture will have lines, jags etc. But it sounds like you have edge connecter problems. Place foam between inside cover and screen. TV may have been thrown around in shipment, and edge connecters came undone. They're very lightly soldered on some sets.

if its only one channel its your cable service, if its constant try unpluging your tv from the wall for 30 seconds to reset it, also try reconnecting any AV cables for the source you are using, If you are using a Coaxial cable unscrew it and check to see the copper needle is not bent or damaged.

Try re-seating and cleaning, the connection between the display and the Motherboard, (Electronics cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, be sure not to leave any of the cotton fuzz on the connectors.) It will be below the keyboard. If that doesn't result in any improvement, the display will probably need replacing. You can find the complete tear-down guide here:

I just got a Philips 42PF9966/37 from a relative because it quit working...shows "dots" of green (mostly) and other colors, sometimes yellow vertical lines, but no picture or menu information is visible;...

Your relative did themselves a favor and cured their problem by giving this TV away. You need to have a tech rework the signal board or replace the signal board.

Samsung 56 HLR566 Vertical Green Lines

I suggest unplugging your entire system for one minute to try a reset again. Sometimes a system reset doesn't take the first time. If this does no good you probably have damage to your digital board or dmd board. I have a smaller version of the same set at home and have done samsung's warranty service for several years. They deliver a great picture but do need regular maintenance and or repairs. The upside of all this is if you have homeowners insurance it may be covered, depending on your deductable amount. However, a dmd board can cost 500.00 so you may have to go that route. Hope this helps, Russmann.

This unit probably has a bad power supply. It may also be shutting down because if this unit has recorded 5 lamp errors it goes into shut down. To eliminate lamp errors you can force the unit on in the service mode and look for lamp errors. To do this, you unplug the unit, and while depressing the volume up and channel down buttons at the same time, plug the unit in. Hold for 1 second and release. The unit will then power on and a small k should appear on the screen. If this does not happen then there is definately an internal failure that will require a sharp auth. service center. If the unit does come on with the k, use the remote and press the channel up button. This will produce a menu on the screen and you will note on line will indicate lamp errors. On the right side of that line will show the # of lamp errors. If it reads 0, lamp errors are not the issue, however if it reads 5, you can highlight that line by using the channel down button. Then use the curser right arrow to select the error and then again to reset them. Once the lamp errors have been reset to 0, unplug the unit and wait at least 25 seconds before plugging in. The unit will now power up normally and this may cure the problem for good. If this process corrects the problem and it occurs some time later or right away that will be an indication that either the unit has bad backlights or inverter has failed and will again require service.
