Question about Karcher 1750 psi Electric Pressure Washer

1 Answer

I got the pressure washer started - lots of smoke etc after not having used 3 years. I then poured in wrong oil to top it off - my brother's chain saw bar oil. DARN. After 3-4 minutes it started rattling and stopped. Can't pull the chord to get started. Did it seize the engine? I have drained all oil. Can I try using a cleaner, light weight oil to try to unlock it?

Nope! you have blown the seals and most likely the cylinder is full of water. You will need to take it to the repairer to have it cleaned checked and new seals fitted. $200

3.5 timing chain noise one sec on cold start

Oil pressure pushes the tensioner foot up against the chain. When the rubber face wears down it will come to the end of it's travel and then stop. High mile engines don't produce a lot of pressure on a cold start, so look at the pressure regulator in the oil pump and replace the timing chain tensioner.

93 honda accord, replaced head gasket but smokes bad in morning from the exhaust

The valve guides in the cylinder head are probably worn, allowing oil to seep into the cylinders overnight and burn off when you start up in the morning. That is why you're loosing oil, it's being burned off.

My Ryobi petrol RCS 3540c chainsaw, smokes badly and won't cut into the wood, it just slides off the top most of the time.

Check that the chain is on the right way around. The cutting edge of the teeth on the chain, at the bottom of the bar should face towards you and away from you on the top. It's most likely that the chain is facing the wrong way. If you don't know how to fit a chain look at the video on http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_4419336_replace-chainsaw-chain.htm

If that's not the problem then the chain is blunt and needs to be sharpened badly. You can sharpen it, with a special file which can be got from chainsaw dealers, or take it to a garden tool hire centre and have it sharpened professionally. It has to be sharpened professionally from time to time anyway to keep it cutting straight so if it's that blunt I'd recommend you get done professionally now.

The smoke if it's coming from the chain is caused by overheating from trying to cut with the chain which is too blunt or turned the wrong way. If the smoke is coming from the engine check your fuel. You should have petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil. The saw manual will give the ratio of 2 stroke oil to petrol. If you use too much oil or if it's not 2 stroke it will cause smoke from the engine. Also if you use cheap oil it can cause smoke. It's best to use good quality oil like husqvarna or stihl 2 stroke. These also protect the saw better than the cheap brands you get at car service stations which are really only meant for boats which are water cooled.

Chainsaw is smoking excessively when in use

White smoke is usually associated with burning antifreeze in an automobile engine, but in this case, trying to cut wet wood might be suspect. The chain must be properly sharpened and the teeth cut toward you on the bottom run of chain. When the chain is properly adjusted, it should not droop from the lower edge of the bar, but no so tight that you can't turn it by hand. Forcing a poor cutting chain into the kerf will overheat the chain and cause it to become loose quickly. Hope this helps!

New GSX-R Owner...questions

short pipe shouldn't cause you any problem...if it starts to backfire a lot after coming down from high speeds then you might want to think about installing something with a little more back pressure. #2 you"ll know it needs an oil change by if it smells burnt, has a slight fuel smell, or it looks real dark black. Now never ever top off your engine oil, pour only 2 and 1/2 bottles at first, start engine let oil get into the filter now shut off, pour a little more in, fill up to 3/4 either on site glass or using a dip stick, and if it uses a dip stick dont screw it in, just drop it in to measure. also check the chain for wear and stretch....you"ll know its stretched buy purchasing a pit bull type rear wheel stand which is a must..you'll always be using it...and spin the tire and check several spots on the bottom of the chain...if some portions are tighter than others then its been streched and now your riding on borrowed time. I"ve had three chains on my bike in a year and a half. Now im gonna need some sprockets next. #3 try to push start the bike to get it started then if it does start ride it somewhere where you can run it for a good solid 15-20 minutes to charge up the battery. if thats all it was, then your battery is probably old and will need replacing..avg bat life is two years! batteries can be expensive, i bought a Yuasa $95 about a year ago and working fine.Hope you found all this info very helpful.
