I can not find the file that keeps re-installing Spyshredder. Any other possible names for the file? And where is the root directory exactly.

    Thanks,

It seems you have a virus problem
if you have spysheriff do the following:

1.Open task manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, and click on the "Processes" tab. Look for Spysheriff there and kill the process if you see it. If you see a process named "winstall" (winstall.exe) then delete this one also.
2.In the control panel goto "Add/ Remove Programs" and remove the "SpySheriff" program. If it says that it cannot uninstall, then you still have it running. It will uninstall once it's not running.
3.Your desktop background will not be restored by that uninstall. Go into the registry by starting RegEdit.exe from the start button.
4.Look for this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
It will have about 6 values stored that disable certain things. Delete this whole branch ActiveDesktop - the system will work with default values afterwards.
Also delete this branch in your registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
5.Look in your root directory for a file named winstall.exe.
This file is scheduled to execute each time you boot and it will re-install Spysheriff.
Delete that file.

    5. Navigate to and delete the following registry entry:

      HKEY_ALL_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\"SpyShredder" = "C:\Program Files\SpyShredder\SpyShredder.exe"

    6. Navigate to and delete the following registry subkeys:

      HKEY_ALL_USERS\Software\SpyShredder
      HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.key
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SpyShredder

    7. Exit the Registry Editor.

I need help changing my background on my Gateway LT20 Series

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!

I'm guessing you're referring to the Windows desktop background. But if not, please provide additional information.

The Windows desktop background is the image on the desktop that appears behind the shortcuts. To change the background, please follow the steps below:

1. Open the "Display Properties" screen by placing the mouse cursor over a blank area of the desktop. Click the right mouse button to access the context menu and choose "Properties". You can also access the "Display Properties" screen by clicking on Start, select Control Panel, and then Appearances and Themes. Open the "Display" shortcut.

2. Select the "Desktop" tab from the "Display Properties" screen.

3. Pick a picture from the Background list by clicking on it and click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position. Personal pictures in the "My Pictures" folder are listed by name in the Background list.

4. Choose a background picture in another location by clicking on the "Browse" button. You can use any files with the following extensions: .bmp, .dib, .gif, .htm or .jpg. Click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position.

How can change desktop background pls help me.

For Windows Vista or 7 - right click the desktop -> click Personalize and enjoy the custom settings. You can also view any picture online and right click and click "Set as desktop background."

For XP and lower - you just need to right click the background, click properties and click Background (the tab). You can also do what I said about online pictures.
