Use the Lexmark All-In-One Center application to send faxes from your computer (make sure your computer is connected to a fax modem). From the Creative Tasks section of the All-In-One Main page, click Fax using PC modem. Follow the instructions on the computer screen.
When you install an all-in one printer it creates 2 icons under printers and faxes, one is for the printer and one for the fax. With the issue that you're having it could be that what's set to default is the icon for fax, that's why whenever you try to print something it pulls up a screen for fax. Just make sure that you have the printer icon highlighted when you print. To set the printer as the default: Go to your Start button on your computer and go to Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP), if you can't see that on the list, go to Control Panel instead and click on Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP). Right click on the icon of your printer and click on Set as Default Printer.
If the icon for your printer is missing, it might have been removed/deleted, in that case, you have to uninstall and reinstall the software.
Hello,
Try this.. Go to start, devices and printers and you will have a few things listed in there that are related to your printer. Most likely it will say document writer, fax and your hp printer. Make sure that the check mark is on your printer, not your fax. This indicates what your default printer is. To change this, right click on your hp printer and select set as default printer. Once this is set try printing again. Let me know if this works, if not we will try step 2. Hope this helps!
Hello. Make sure that the fax software is already installed in the computer. There should be a fax object in Printers and Faxes/Printer/Printers and Devices(for Windows) or in Print and Fax(for Macintosh). If there is, when you send a fax from the computer, make sure to use the correct print object which is for the fax. If driver is not installed, reinstall the software.
here are the things that i want you to follow to somehow resolve your issue.
1. On your computer, click on start then go to control panel
2. inside control panel open the PRINTERS and FAXES (XP) or PRINTER (VISTA).
3. make sure change the default printer icon to the HP Officejet 5600 series.
- right click HP Officejet 5600 series and choose "set as default printer"
4. then try printing,
note: the reason why you encounter that problem is because the default printer icon is the "HP officejet 5600 series fax".
This is absolutely the right solution. I used this for my Canon MP780 printer under Vista, as well. I want to include all of the keywords here. It is important to note that the DPR-1260 shipped with Firmware Version 1.12 cannot be seen by Visa until it is upgraded with the Version 1.21 firmware, but after downgrading back to the Version 1.12 firmware, the DPR-1260 is still visible and it now recognizes my Canon MP780 multifunction printer as a printer and not as a fax machine. I plan to post this same solution to other sites, so that hopefully others can get their DPRs working again. Whew!
