HP Pavilion dv9700 black after closing lid.

I have an HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook. Recently the screen started staying black any time I closed the lid and opened it. How do I keep this from happening? I have things set to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed on power or batteries.

Yes, it saved. It briefly flashed the sign-in screen to unlock and then goes dark again.

When you changed it to do nothing on battery or power did you save these settings........I know it is a silly question but it sounds like the laptop is going into Hibernate mode

ok according to what I have found it appears that your system needs an HP Update for Recovery Manager. You can find this on the "HP Drivers and Download page" at hp.com. What you are looking for is the "HP Update for Recovery Manager version 1.00 REV:A (SP36812) see if that solves your problem.

    Thx for your patience

Pavilion dv9700, screen goes black if Iclose it. Take it apart, put it back together and works fine. Close top. goes black again. Take screen apart screen ok. What the heck. Inverter connections look ok....

Sounds like a loose lcd cable, I'd check to make sure it is secure (back of lcd) and where it connects to the motherboard. Usually a piece of tape right where it connects solves the problem ;)

I have hp dv9700, after improper shutdown kept rebooting

What happened is that you interrupted the disk write on 'saving settings'. Very BAD. You may be able to start in safe mode, by pressing F8 while windows is starting, then selecting options to attempt to repair. The alternative, is to boot from the windows CD and select 'repair'.

Try to boot the computer with your windows installation disc. If it will boot off the disc, try to perform a start up repair. When you write back, give as much information as you can about the computer

Black screen

If the screen is breaking up into multiple screens, the video resolution isn't set correctly. Change the video properties back to the native resolution.

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen. Click on Properties at the bottom. Now click on the Settings tab.
The Screen Resolution slider should be all the way to the right, close to -> More.
The Colors should be set to the highest setting.

When you close the lid, you may have your laptop set to Sleep Mode, check that. You may also have your screen saver set to Blank, and no screen saver has been chosen.

(1.Screen Saver: Right-click on empty area of desktop>Properties>Screen Saver.

2.Sleep Mode: Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Power Options>Power Buttons>When I press the sleep button on my computer>Then choose what you want it to do)

If none of this helps, I suggest you have a problem that HP needs to repair. Since you bought this dv9700t last July, would I be correct in assuming it's still under warranty?

Locks screen when I close the lid on my hp pavilion dv9740us

computer has gone into hibernation. Best to shut that function off, and replace with standby.

If you want it to hibernate, press the power button once, and it should come back on to the log in screen.

Hp Laptop screen flicker

I am sure that the issue is related to the cable that connects to the LCD Display or the LCD Backlight.
There should be some connection shortage because of which the LCD flickers few times as stated by dan231.
I Recommend you to get the Notebook examined as soon as possible before something really goes wrong...

Hp Laptop screen flicker

Hi, i noticed that when I unplugged my HP the screen stopped flickering. I then re-plugged in the power, when to the Nvidia control settings, to PowerMizer, and changed 'ac outlet' to Maximum Power Saving.

Not the world's greatest solution, but hey, working laptop now.

Cheers,
Andy.
