Question about AT&T Blackberry Curve 8300 Smartphone
This is usually caused by little pieces of dirt/debris that gets underneath the ball. if you can find a small, slim tool, you can pop the ball out (silver ring included). when you do that, blow inside the hole and also clean the ball off with some rubbing alcohol. make sure the ball is completely dry before you put it back in your phone. carefull not to lose it, they're slippery suckers!

The balls on the blackberry's get clogged up with finger oil, skin, and all sorts of grime I think. But I fixed mine by shutting the phone down and then rubbing hard against the roll ball in each direction and pushing each time until the clicker under the roll ball clicked. You could also try alcohol.
