Disconnect the battery and remove the fusebox then check the wire connections under it as well as the wire connections of the wires going to it

Sounds like you have a bad ground wire. make sure all your wires are tight and not corroded.

How can you tell what type of transmission is in my 1998 chevy malibu

Whether your Malibu is:
(a) 4 cylinder 2.4L SFI DOHC Vin "T", or
(b) 6 cylinder 3.1L SFI OHV Vin "M"

SFI = fuel injected
DOHC = dual overhead camshaft
OHV = overhead valves
Vin = 17-digit unique car identifier - the 8th digit identifies the engine (not the transmission), and
as you can see, your engine will be identified by the 8th digit = "T" or "M"

your car has the Chevrolet 4T40E automatic transmission (aka "automatic transaxle")
Here are some specifications:

Need a list of everthing it would take to install a 5.7 v8 in a 1998 s10 that cane with a 4 banger

Look on the internet for "Chevy S-10 V8 conversion". There are companies that offer a kit with motor mounts, harnesses. ECM, differential and/or gears, transmission, etc. If you want a more precision engine to convert to, I suggest the 5.3L. That is a mean motor that will give you decent gas mileage and more power than a 350. Trust me, if you have to save a little longer to afford the 5.3L it is well worth it. Please rate me on this answer.

1998 chevy vortec v8 stops accelerating at 3000 rpm when engine at operating temp. problem is worse in warm weather. it will accelerate below 1/4 throttle then when you get in the throttle it just stops....

Have you checked all your vacuum lines. One may have rotted and has a hole sucking in more air then needed messing up the air fuel mixture. Take a can of carburetor cleaner and while the engine is running spray short bursts around the carb and theintake manifold and where any little black hose lines are hooked up.If the engine revs up in rpms then it has an intake leak sucking in air where its not supose too.
This will cause power loss. Also check your air filter to make sure it is not plugged up. Ihope this helps, The Raz

I suspect you have had an oil pump failure. To get at the rotory gear oil pump you will have to drop the oil pan. After you take the pan off, ( having drained the oil the oil pump is what the oil pick up line leads into. That pick up assy. is a round shaped disc with a screen inside it. Clean the screen first then the oil pump. Install new oil pan gasket on reassembly. Hope that helps you. Please let me know.

Hopefully the engine was not damaged when the pump broke. If it was you may need a complete engine rebuild, MAYBE.
