The contrast on the upper LCD screen is too dark. How do I increase the brightness so I can read the dictator's ID and job type? The lower LCD screen brightness is perfect!

This is not a copier machine. This is a Lanier VoiceWriter EX teletranscriber, which is a glorified telephone from which I receive dictation to transcribe. There was no specific category for transcription equipment, so I chose Office Machines, and was shunted to "Copiers." Sorry for the confusion!

I am using a Lanier VoiceWrite EX transcriber, connected to a phone line in order to transcribe medical reports. The top LCD panel back lighting is so dim that it is hard to read the ID of the dictator and the job type. Is there a way to increase the brightness of this panel? The lower LCD panel brightness is perfect. I originally selected "Office Equipment" because there was no other category from which to choose, and your system shunted me into "Copiers," which of course is not correct.

It was very helpful. The problem is this is third-hand equipment my primary contractor gets from others when they upgrade, and it's probably close to obsolescence. I appreciate your help! Thank you so much.

Surely your problem is in your LCD's backlight because the contrast is supposed to work for the entire LCD screen.

But you can still try to isolate problem by going to the LCD settings and change the refresh rate. Bring it up higher. If it doesn't fix the problem, then you might want to change your LCD backlight.
Here is a fix:

but you should be highly experienced with this stuff to do this, otherwise, you can bring it to an authorized service center. If its still under warranty, the better.

If the LCD does not have a balanced contrast, the crystals in the panel may be damaged does adjusting the contrast may be of no use.

Increase your brightness or decrease darkness setting under display in your menu. Lower your contrast if need be too. This always solves that for me. There may be a "Black Level" as well.

That's an old fashioned CRT. I'd increase contrast at well since it affects how bright the tones get and see if it helps. It should never be dark. It's may be dying.

I have a Mitsubishi 60"

there may be dust behind the screen & also on the reflecting glass. u will see that upper back portion cover is removable. remove it & see that glass there is glass on inner side of cover. clean it, also clean the screen. u will see there are 3 picture tubes faces on bottom side, clean all of them.

if it does not work then u can increase brightness of tv by increasing "screen" control of tv which is on the lower back portion of tv. this can be done by any tv repair expert only.

Screen is Extremely Dark!

Good Day, Cary;
PICTURE IS DARK WHEN OSD CONTRAST MENU ADJUST LEVEL CHANGES.
Cause: SHORTED ZD-309.

Also, increase Screen controls at front of TV and see what pix brightness does . Hopefully you did check brighteness & contast levels. When adjusting Sreen controls set contrast control at about 90% and brightness at about 50%.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

Dark screen

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.
