Samsung hdtv 1080p no signal in hdmi1

We connected the samsung to a box from gektv and we saw an option to change the settings to 1080p so after we chose that option the tv screen showed us no signal, then said searching for signals, and the gektv was kind of showing up but it was distorted. Later it showed something like a download bar that was searching for new devices after it was done it said it didn't find anything....how can i fix this?
