Question about HP Pavilion dv9000t Notebook

Dead. Only lights up where plugged into power cable & LED lights

Otherwise totally dead, dead, dead...and way past the extended warranty. Was working when closed liad last - I moved (it was properly packed but sustained usual cross country vibrations in a truck) - Wondering if a power ribbon cable worked itself loose? Or the MB just died.

Looking inside everything seems in place - have not removed any boards. Only power ring lights up - no fan. All dead.

Replace the P/S? You mean the external transformer? The battery? They are all fine. Recall the blue ring lights up when I plug in the transformer. IF you mean some form of P/S inside the case, I don't see anything other than the connection into the MB from the blue ring connector.

Thank you for the advise. Still dead.

Open up the case and make sure that all the PC boards are properly seated in their slots.
Check all the ;power connectors and board connectors. One of them may have come loose during transport.
Leave the case open and turn on the power to see if the fans (case and CPU) are spinning.
Let me know if this fixes the problem or if we have to further research the motherboard. Thanks.

If you're not getting power anywhere I suspect that the power supply has died and need to be replaced. Pull the power supply, make sure you mark the connections so that you can quickly reconnect the new power supply. Take your old power supply to your local repair shop or computer store and purchase a power supply with the same dimensions as your old power supply. The wattage can be higher that your old ps.

    Reinstall the new ps.

This should have you up and running.

Let me know if this solves your problem. If it does please raise the solution rating. Thanks.

    Try the following.

    1. Disconnect the AC adapter.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
    4. Reinstall the battery.
    5. Reconnect the AC adapter.
    6. Download and install the latest BIOS version for your model.

My DV6000 was hit by a power surge during a lightning storm. It is completely dead. no lights or any indications of power. I have multiple batteries and AC adapters so I know it is the laptop. Is there...

No, there is no fuse.

Is the manufacturer's warranty still valid?
Did you purchase the computer via a credit-card that "doubles" the warranty?
Did you purchase an "extended" warranty from the manufacturer, when you "registered" it?
Did you purchase an "extended" warranty from the retail store?

Otherwise, find the nearest authorized HP repair outlet, and get it fixed.

How to know if the monitor is totally dead?

Generally, if the power light (LED) doesn't come on and there is no screen display with or without input signal, it's dead. Probably a failed power supply.

What does the 50 amp fuse labeled batt in the fuse box under the hood send power too ? If I dont remove it my battery will drain totally dead over nite. Its in a 1996 chev 1/2 4wd Z71 extended cab

The fuse is the main fuse to the vehicles power supply just the same as removing the battery cable . you have a drain in your electrical system , use a test light , remove the possitive cable from the battery and hook one end to the battery and the other to the cable remove fuses till the light goes off ( make sure all doors are closed and switches turned off) that is your drain source . do no remove the 50 amp fuse in this test .

Monitor is totally dead

Through my past experience I mwould remove the solder point at the input power B+ line to primary winding FBT. If the HOT has shorted there will be no power.Straight to the point if you know where the HOT is , you can desolder the middle pin or collector of the HOT transistor. If you desolder the pin which result the power led light turn up. That indicates either FBT or HOT has shorted

You may have solved your own problem. It may well in fact be dead. Check the warranty status on your MP3 player and hope it is still in warranty. Otherwise, you might as well search for a new MP3 player. There is a chance the battery may be totally dead (possibly a leak) but this is incredibly rare. Since it's worthless as it is and if it is out of warranty, open her up and check the battery, if you notice a cable loose between the device and the battery, try reconnecting it. If you see the battery has leaked, get a replacement. Other than that, you'll need additional parts and patience which is beyond the worth of the MP3 player.
