Half way through a weld the heat went way up and blew out the tungsten and put a hole in the aluminum. Now every time I fire up it is extremely hot and I can't turn it down with petal or machine knob

Sncrowave 350 lx, problem is only with AC, DC works fine. Welding aluminum with green band tungsten. Settings are TIG, remote control, HF continuous, and AC. No matter how low amperage is set at on machine, barely pressing the foot petal makes it arc off and blow holes in 1/8" plate. Welding gas is argon set around 40

No mxtra, I meant syncrowave 350 lx like I said.

Voltage control failure
have a technician test to find the fault

But it works fine on DC welding stainless. Could it still be voltage control?

SOURCE: I have a miller microwave 200. what settings

I think you mean you have a Miller Synchrowave 200.

Typically, you would want to use AC below about 250 amps. In this case (to keep it simple), use AC, adjust your balance to about 4, use an 1/8" pure tungsten, pure argon at about 20CFh, and set the panel at 170amps to get things started. For general purpose, use 4043 filler.

Now - these are just generic settings, but they will get you going.

SOURCE: bad tig weld job

Wow you have a lot of variables here. Let's go over some of them.1.AC current 2.100%argon shield gas 3.Check your Tungsten, it must be the recommended 1or 2% and the right size, clean and the tip rounded by meting 4. High freq. turned to continous-not just "START"
5. CLEAN,CLEAN,CLEAN your Alum. with a S.S. brush that has touched NOTHING else in in it's life!
Start here and GOOD luck

SOURCE: lincoln precision tig 225.

Hello; Make sure AC Auto Balancing is Enabled; And when Welding Aluminum Aways use 100% Pure Green Coded Tugsten.Make Sure you dont have 75/25 or possibly if you know for sure your frequency balancing on your machine is working you could possibly have a bad bottle of gas try the bottle of gas on the machine that you say that runs good if it runs good put it back on the 225 if the problems still exist there is something wrong with your machine`s Ac high freqency Auto Balancing.Make sure all connections are good, check tig head for loose connections. Step Up to A 1/8 size tugsten it will carry more heat and gets less contanimated.Every time you stick your tugsten it will run contanimated untill you burn it off or clean it ,if you stick you tugsten go ahead and put a clean piece back in the tig head, Contanimated tugsten wil run dirty for 5 to 20 minutes Untill you BURN it Back Clean !?

What is the difference between TIG & MIG welding?

MIG welding is also called Metal inert gas welding, gas metal arc (GMAW) welding. MIG welding uses an arc of electricity that creates a short circuit amidst a constant anode and a cathode. The short circuit produces heat and a non-reactive gas. This melts metal, enabling it to be mixed together. After the heat is removed, the metal cools down and then solidifies, creating new fused metal. MIG wire is used in MIG welding. Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding utilizes a non-consumable tungsten electrode that produces the electric arc for the weld. Unlike MIG welding, TIG welding does not require additional metal to be added.

What polarity do I use for tig welding aluminum, and what color electrode for miller hf-p dial arc

Your dialarc HF has a selector for polarity, DCEP (electrode positive), DCEN (electrode negative) and AC. DC TIG welding is done in DCEN only with the high frequency turned to start. When welding aluminum, you must be in AC with the high frequency turned to continuous. Other machines may be different, but that setup will be how you need to set that dialarc HF.

The old school tungsten recommendation has always been the green or pure tungsten when welding aluminum on AC with a transformer machine, which is what you have. However, pure tungsten will not be a good choice for inverter style machines or when welding other metals besides aluminum. So instead of having multiple types of tungsten running around in your tool box, I use the blue or 2% lanthanated tungsten for everything. I find that it has excellent arc characteristics on both AC and DC, you can also sharpen it to a point when welding on AC, which is very useful in directing the arc when tacking up your aluminum job or starting out at low amps.

What settings are best on a miller 350 dynasty for

Use the best argon gas, ac polarity, continous frequency, tungstene must round and not sharp, rather use the zirconiated than the thoriated and make sure you got the size or diameter of tungstene according to your welding amps

Set the "arc balance" control between 40-50, also. You need to be up around 200-220 amps too. Make sure you're using 3/32 tungsten (green, red) and running about 25-30 cfh on your argon. Ball that end on the tungsten.

How to connect a metal post for a fence to aluminum gate

Hi! May i ask what are you planning to set up? If youre trying to put an aluminum gate on a metal post you will need a hand drill to do this. Please provide the following:
- Door hinges for aluminum, make sure that the hinges are strong enough to carry the gate
- Provide screw driver set for bolting the gate to the post
- You may need an open wrench for tightening the bolt
Hope this helps and good luck!

How to prepare tungsten for aluminum for welding aluminum a ball is supposed to be fashioned on the tip of the tungsten electrode how?

To make successful aluminum welds you must set your TIG machine to A/C, so make sure you get a tungsten rod meant for running alternating current. If it is pure tungsten (green band on the end), you're good. For the tip, just grind a tip like you normally would. When you start welding a bit of aluminum will collect on your electrode. After that you may need to break off the tip every now and then if you get a lot of junk in the ball. Make sure you practice on some scrap first, aluminum is very different to run than other metals. Getting the right operating temperature down is a bit trickier too.

Just in case you're working on something serious like a motorcycle frame, make sure the aluminum you're using is a grade that's able to be welded. I've heard about a guy that built costom bikes and used the wrong grade, when the customer took the bike down the highway it fell apart on him.

My tungsten appers to be melting when i am welding aluminum also leaves black residue when welding

TIG TORCH MAY NOT BE RATED AT THAT AMPERAGE .MIGHT BE BETTER TO USE 1/8 PURE TUNGSTEN. BLACK RESIDUE MAY BE CAUSED THE CORROSION OF COPPER GUTZ DURING WELING ,DO TO INTENSE HEAT. OR MAYBE CAUSED BY FAILURE TO CLEAN METAL AND/OR DIPPING THE TUNGSTEN.

Welding aluminum

TIG weding is next to brain surgery as far as CLEAN goes.
You must get your AL clean, either by 1. Clean with a NEW Stainless Steel brush or 2. by using a chemical from the welding house that is made just for that.
Your cup must be clean and your gas flowing at the right amount,no leaks in o-rings or hoses.
Hold your cup more vertical and keep your filler rod in the gas shield always,no in and out movement.
In short you must get everything perfect to get quality Heliarc Al welds.
Good luck, HowardRoark
