My laptop does that sometimes and a restart fixes the problem - so far!

If restarting doesn't fix it you need to open the device manager and if audio devices are in the list try and troubleshoot them. If not in the list it is probably a hardware problem.

SOURCE: TomTom GO 720 - flashing red circle with white cross on screen

Hi, I am back, just got the problem solved, I called their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service.
First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
Hope this helps
Aldo

SOURCE: GO 910 Cannot remove flashing white cross in red circle

Same here today. Had to replace all the files with those I copied and burnt to a backup CD when I first connected the ONE. If I try just a map update through Home (not an application update) then I get a "No Maps" message after startup. I'll bet dozens of perfectly good units are being replaced by retailers everywhere. I am now going to seek an explanation from TomTom. It may just be that the current updates are buggy or corrupted. At least I had the sense to back everything up before I tried to update the thing so I can quickly get going again. Spent about three hours so far faffing about with this "plug and play with yourself" little marvel. Bah!

My toshiba satellite L300, has lost sound. when i play it show the sound bars, but nothing is coming out

Check the device manager to make sure the sound drivers are installed. to do this you right click my computer then click manage. when the computer managment comes up, click Device Manager. Look to Sound, video and game controllers. Make sure your sound driver is installed and does not have a red X or yellow circle with a exclaimation point in it.

if you have sound drivers installed as above would show; you need to check your levels. here is a location to show you all this: http://www.tinyeye.com/avsetup/soundsetup_xp.html

if these are fine then you need to look at the side of your unit. some toshibas have a volume control by the headphones. Sadly enough this does not just control the headphone sound but controls the speakers as well. Turn it up if it exists.

Randy - I don't know what TV you have but in general media devices turn the internal speakers off when you plug anything into the headphone jacks. If your TV does you can probably do the following for probably around $20 (USD)

If you have a relatively new TV you could get a pair of inexpensive self powered computer speakers and a simple 3.5 mm to RCA stereo adapter. Then plug a standard red-white RCA stereo cable into the red-white stereo output jacks on the TV and the other end into the 3.5mm adapter and a 3.5" stereo cable from the adapter into the computer speakers.

Or, if the TV headphone jack is 3.5" instead of the larger 1/4" headphone type you could simply get a 3.5" stereo Y adapter and then plug the headphones into one end of the Y and the computer speakers into the other.

Either way sound for everyone.

How do i hookup my speakers to my tv

Computer speak usually have a 3.5" headphone plug (just like a pair of headphones). This plug is not native to a TV, they instead usually use RCA plugs (red and white with a solid center post and metal 'sleeve' which makes the connection) these are the most common audio out format for most TVs. You can go to radio shack and buy a 3.5" headphone to RCA adapter which is just a short cable with a female 3.5" plug at one end and two RCA plugs at the other (red and white). This is pretty cheap ~$5 and should get you up and running. You will be going from the label Audio Out ports on your tv through the adapter cable and into your PC speakers.

How do I connect my Dell laptop to the tv speakers ? Not for video - only for sound . Thanks, TJ

You will need an 1/8" TRS Stereo Male to Stereo RCA(Red and White) Male adapter. Plug the 1/8" TRS into your Laptop Speaker Out, or Headphone Out, and plug the RCA Stereo cable into your TV Input.

My macbook air does not play any sound anylonger, it suddenly stop working and a circle with a line inside appears when I try to increase or decrese the volume...?

You laptop may have sound prefs set to external speakers, or if there is a red light coming from the headphone jack. the mac thinks the headphones are still there.
Plug in and unplug the headphones an see if the red light goes out. may take a couple of times. Be gentle

My MacBook just lost its sound. The internal speaker is not working. I cannot raise the volume. What can I do?

Have a look down the jack socket where you would plug in speakers or headphones - is there a bright red light?
If there is it means that audio is being routed through the digital output not the analogue (which includes the internal speakers)
Go to system prefs and check on Sound - last icon in the second row.
There should be at least three output options listed, digital, line out and internal speakers. check Internal speakers and that should be it.
However. Just lately I have seen 2 white macbooks that have only DIgital listed and have been unable to fix it.
