SOURCE: washer/dryer combo- i just want to use the dryer!
I'm not sure which model you have, but there may be 2 different kinds of drying cycles--one automatically detects moisture in the clothes and can be set to "more" or "less" dry (or some similar types of terms). When using this automatic option, the clothes all have to be similar weight (so they'll all be dry at around the same time).
The 2nd type of cycle is timed dry--if this is an option, you may find it works better for you--so you can control the amount of drying time.
You are right that DRY should be just DRY...For the 2 models I reviewed, they both have separate Drying controls.
If you check your manual under "troubleshooting", there should be a few basic suggestions--one is to ensure that the water is draining properly by cleaning the drain pump filter (instructions for this should be in your manual).
In case you don't have a manual, you can get one here:
http://ca.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp
(Click "Owners Manuals" on the left, and then enter your model number in the appropriate spot and then click "search".
For example, I entered 3431 for one model; and 3988 for a different model.)

When the filter gets blocked the dryer doesn't work.
The filter is located behind the small panel to the rear of the machine.
Remove the three screws and then the plastic panel.
The filter is located in the large black rubber gater tube which is held on by an adjustable clip.
Remove the clip by unscrewing the philips head screw and pull the tube down to remove. The filter has what appears to be a table tennis ball inside. Apparently this helps with self cleaning!
Remove the filter, clean and replace. The filter needs a little fiddling to get to sit right. Replace the gater tube and re-fit and tightend clip. Check for tightness and set the machine away and check for leaks etc. This job takes about 20 minutes.
If this doesn't solve the problem you will need to focus your attention to the heater element or thermastat located on the top of the machine behind a cast plate help on with torque screws.
Hope this helps.
