Question about Sharp Aquos LC-37G4U 37 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

1 Answer

Firmware Problems I was having a problem with my Sharp Aquos LC-46SE94U dropping the picture when I was using my Xbox 360. I found a link to a firmware update that was supposed to fix the problem. Well it fixed the problem, now I have no picture at all. Ever. The TV worked fine after the update, until I turned it off for five seconds. When the TV was turned back on, there was only the blue 'power' light to let me know that there was anything happening at all. We were able to get the TV back on again once, but I turned it off again about an hour ago and it won't turn back on.  The power light will come on, and sometimes (usually when I try using the remote) flash on and off with the green OPC light. I'm going to try giving tech support a call, but if someone has a solution to this problem I would love to hear from you.

Go to the TV close up and hold a flashlight to the screen to see if you can see a picture,if you do you may have a backlight problem (flouresent bulbs built in) also make sure you check it in other inputs , most important does the menu light up, these simple steps can localize whats going on. post again with more details

Why did it freeze during software update?

Here is some help on a Sharp Aquos. You pull the plug and update manually.

Sharp Aquos Firmware Update Issue and Resolution I recently had problems with my Sharp Aquos LC-60LE632U and firmware update 311U1204061. When I attempted to run the Netflix app, I was told that I couldn't proceed unless I updated the firmware. After 2 attempts to update the firmware via the network, I turned to Google and found that this was a common problem. In order to resolve the issue, you'll need to update the firmware manually, via a USB thumb drive. See the following instructions:

  1. Go to the Sharp USA product download site
  2. After you choose your TV model, download the firmware file
  3. View the rest of the instructions found here

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-37d43u and when I turn the power on the picture and input show up for a second then the whole screen goes black. Any thoughts?

Fault to its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Must be an indication of error code. Better to refer it to a qualified service technician.

Aquos screen blacks out with xbox 360 using Component Cables

Downloaded the updated firmware from the sharp website to a usb drive. Placed the drive in the TV and went to the update software option on the TV menu. Since the update, I no longer get the black-outs on the screen. I also put the resolution on the 360 back up to 1080p and it works great, even through the component cables.

While playing xbox 360 in 1080p mod, the screen frequently blanks

Most TV's have problems doing 1080p over component. Dial the Xbox back to 1080i. Make sure the big switch on the Xbox AV cable is set to 'HDTV' not 'TV'(common problem) If the problem persists, try plugging into different hookups, use HDMI (if your console supports it) or buy one of the HDMI adaptors from PDP or MadCatz if your console doesnt. HDMI will reduce the clutter and will make 1080p a reality.

Problem with Brand New Sharp LC-46SB54U

Well this is not exactly a solution as much as it is just to inform you of what I've found out. I actually posted one of the problems listed below as guest. Either way, after having techs come to my house to replace the main board and component board to a total new (well, refurbished) TV exchange; I finally got some answers that clarified exactly what was going on. Today when I called Sharp to complain about the problems still happening with the new unit, they explained that they looked into the problem and it actually seems like there is an issue with the TV interpreting the signals coming from the XBOX. So essentially the signal is more than the TV can handle and then it lags behind a little. When this happens it can get confused and might want to switch resolutions (like going from 1080p to 1080i) for an instant and this is what causes the "blackout" issue. Apparently they are working on a firmware upgrade which should take care of the issue which should come out (hopefully) within the next 30 days. As soon as they do come out with the firmware upgrade I will post it on this page so everyone having the same issues can go ahead and upgrade. Hope this information is useful to some of you.

Screen Goes Blank for about 5 seconds

A friend and I both have the LC-32D64U Aquos sets with the same problem. Black screen for a few seconds with no video or sound. They came with firmware version S0804171.

Installing (reverting?) to firmware S0801101 on Sharp's website resolved these issues. Perhaps you need to update/switch firmware versions, especially if hardware replacement did not resolve the issue.
