How can we take it apart after we drained the pool?

Question:

How do I properly remove my above ground pool?

Answer: by Osko Pool n Spa Onground Pool Removal Guide
Recently, a reader of one of my other articles asked the question;

" How do you take down an above ground swimming pool to move it? I can't seem to find anything to help me. I read your article on replacing a liner but I need to know how to move the entire pool".

Well, (I thought to my self), this is a very good question. So, here is a basic step-by-step guide on the basic proceedure: ( You'll need at least three people, to help with your wall).

1) Drain all water out of pool using a sump pump.

2) Remove skimmers, returns, lights etc.

3) Remove old liner, (use a razor knife and cut into manageable folded pieces). You'll need a new liner if your going to reinstall the pool.

4) Remove Top Seat Ledge covers

5) Remove Top Seat Ledges.

6) Remove Top Rail and Joiner Plates.

7) Locate Wall Bolt Joint on the Pool Wall and remove the corresponding Upright.

8) Now, get some help and remove all Wall Bolts and associated hardware.

9) Next, start pulling the wall out of the bottom rail (track). And roll the wall up as you remove it from the bottom rail. When finished, duct tape the wall so it does not unroll.

10) Pull the uprights, bottom rail and bottom rail joiner plates out of the ground in sections.

11) Remove uprights from bottom joiner plates.

12) Make sure to separate all components and save all hardware!

That's it!

Hope this helps!

NOT from Outside.
If Possible empty pool now with a Controlled drain...
Peel back liner and clean area real good. Sand or steel wool to remove rust. Then Paint using one of those "Rubber" based leak sealing paints found in your local DIY warehouse store.
Then place a piece of Thin sheet metal against the wall after paint dried. Replace liner, coping strip, ridgidizing metal bar, and top rail.
Refill.
or if you're lucky...
Patch the liner. When all is dry, use 3 applications of Epoxy Putty like JB Weld. Place a small covering over the DRY area with the hole. If possible, force some into the hole.
Once dried and cured, place a 2nd patch, slightly larger over it, and then repeating a 3rd time, again slightly larger.
Not as good as First method, but may still work?
If left unattended...
The water pressure in the pool, will push the liner right thru that hole - like a hernia, and will burst thru releasing all your water and possibly collapsing the pool? This will be an "Uncontrolled" drain vs. the controlled drain above.
I guess you can choose which way you want to drain your pool?

How much salt is needed for a 30 ft diam pool with 54 in side walls?

23,790 gallons if you fill it to the very top.

Calculate the volume of a pool you need the radius^2 times pi times depth times 7.48 to come up with gallons.

Radius = 15ft
pi = 3.14
depth = 4.5ft

15^2 x 3.14 x 4.5 x 7.48 = 23780.79 or 23,781 gallons.

So the salt you need is 640 lbs @ 40lbs each = to 16 bags

I don't think Mike's figures are correct according to my research. You can ask at a pool supply shop, who will also sell you the salt. It certainly is going to be 32oz to make a saline pool. Remember the salt is doing the job of chlorine to kill bacteria.

How to fix a hole in a swimming pool liner

  • Get some food coloring...
    • Squeeze bottle works best
    • Or pool leak detection Dye
  • get some good goggles...
  • get in the pool, start at one specific area...
  • and take a deep breath...
  • Now follow all the seams 1st, squeeze some dye in a suspected area and watch. If the dye gets sucked in, there's a leak! If it just puddles and hangs around, keep checking somewhere else.
  • Once a lead IS found, vinyl liner pool patch! Can even be used under water.

How much salt do i need for a 24 ft round pool

depending on the salt system you are using, the amount of salt will vary. the owners manual should have a salt table with a recommended value. most salt systems will require somewhere close to a 3000 ppm level. to get this, you will need approximately 140 kg of salt. (65 lbs)

How salt to use for start up for a 22 x 52 above ground pool

You need to know how much salt is currently in pool...
then what is total gallons of your pool?
Round pool? 22' round?
52" walls?
Use only Pure Pool Salt, NOT Softener salt!
2700 ppm to 3400 ppm is the range for ideal levels in your pool.

Is the Hayward s210 pro series 21" top mount above

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

32' round by how deep? Flow rate is how you size a filter so with total gallons you can calculate how many per minute will add up to the whole pool being turned over is 6-8 hours. The pump and filter are then sized for that required flow...Assuming the pool is an above ground ~4' average depth then total gallons would be about 24,000 gallons. For an 8 hour turnover you would need about 50 gallons per minute. The 210T, T for top mount, is designed to handle up to 44 gallons per minute and turn over a 21,000 gallon pool in 8 hours or a 26,000 gallon pool in 10.

What that basically means is that using a 210 on a pool 32 x 4 would be pushing it. It will work but you will end up backwashing more frequently which raises the overall cost of running the pool. If it is not to late a 24" filter would be better; especially if you have periods of time in your pool season where heavy amounts of debris such as pollen get into the water. A 21" filter won't handle any over a normal filtration load.

My above ground pool vacuum does not move. It sounds like it is working, but it just sits in one spot.

With these pool cleaners, the common cause of this problem is issues with the flapper. With the pump off, remove the cleaner from the pool and check the flapper for any signs of damage or debris that could be causing problems with movement. It should move freely and their should be no obvious stones, twigs or other debris clogging this area. If you see debris, simply remove it. If you see debris that can't easily be reached with your fingers, you will need to remove the plate where the debris goes when vacuuming. Use a small flat headed screwdriver to push on one of the two tabs located on the side of the base plate. Release the plate, remove the flapper, and remove the debris. Reattach your plate and try your cleaner again.
