SOURCE: Kitchenaid Top Loader leaks

It leaksYour washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only
During drain and spin only
All the time

During fill only
If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only
A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time
If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

SOURCE: whirlpool washing machine...only uses hot water

Make sure the hoses are connected correctly to the water valve on the machine. The connections will be marked with an "H" and a "C".

Given they are correct, most current washing machines have and auto temp feature on the water fill. It allows even cold water settings to bring in some hot water to make sure the water temp is hot enough to efficiently disolve your laundry detergant. The preset temps are usually around 75* for cold, and 105* for warm. Hot water comes in at whatever temp your household water temp is.

SOURCE: water drips into the bin after spin cycle

The cold water inlet valve is defective and must be replaced to solve the problem. It sold as an assembly with the hot water inlet valve and the part number depends on the model/serial number of the machine. You have to remove the machine cabinet to access and replace the water inlet valve assembly.

Cabinet Removal Procedure
Remove the console depending on the model of your machine.

  1. If the console is secured by screws, simply remove the screws, lift the console up then flip it to the back of the machine. On some models, the screws are hidden under the console's removable end caps. Pull the end caps to the front of the machine to access the screws. If the console is not held by screws, use a putty knife to release the retaining clips under the front corners of the console. Insert the putty knife blade and push it until the clips are released.
  2. Disconnect the lid switch connector from the cabinet.
  3. The cabinet is held on to the back panel by two retaining clips. Use a flat blade screw driver and insert it to the lip of the clip and push it to the back of the machine.
  4. Lift the lid and grab the front of the cabinet. Brace it with your knee, lift and pull it towards you to remove it.
  5. Reinstall the cabinet in reverse order of the procedure above.
Water Inlet Valve Assembly Replacement Procedure
  1. Put a bucket or pan under the water inlet valve assembly to catch and hold residual water from the fill hoses.
  2. Remove the fill hoses from the inlet valve assembly and drain the residual water into the bucket or pan.
  3. Remove the screws holding the valve assembly to the back of the machine.
  4. Press the spring clamp that holds the inlet hose with a pair of pliers and move it away from the valve assembly.
  5. Remove the inlet hose and install the new water inlet valve assembly.
  6. Make sure to clean the filters on the fill hoses, if there's any, before attaching it the valve assembly.

I have a new Bradford white 40 gallon gas hot water heater. There are no single handle faucets. The hot water fluctuates between hot and cold. When I close both inlet and outlet shut off for the hot water...

Sounds like water leak.
For example, broken pipe... or water running out of TP valve.
That would explain variable hot-and-cold water at tap.
Turn off all taps, and observe if water meter is registering water usage.

My tank on my nouva simonilli Program machine keeps filling even with no power to the machine. I thought it might be the valve just after the pump (looks like it needs a certin pressure to open the valve...

There are 2 1/4 turn valves under the black safety cover under the drain tray, make sure the one closest to the inlet solenoid is turned off. If that is off and water still flows into the boiler then one of the exchangers might be damaged.

Nuova Simonelli Premier Maxi V , 2005...when water turned on machine constantly leaking from the pressure relief valve and the hot water valve.

Has the machine been in cold storage? If no then the inlet solenoid could be the culprit. There might be sediment keeping the valve open.

Hot water connected but does not fill into the drum? The machine will provide us with a cold wash but on the warm and hot settings the hot water dies not pull through the connection

Turn off the water valves which supply the water to washer hoses. Switch the hot and cold water supply hoses and tighten. Turn the water valves back on and try to run a wash cycle using cold. If hot water only is entering the wash tub the water supply is ok. If this is the case you can unplug the washer and turn off the water valves. Remove the washer back cover and follow the water connection for the hot water. The water solenoid valve will have two electrical wires connected to it. Interchange the hot water solenoid wires with the cold water solenoid connection. Connect the water supply hoses hot to hot and cold to cold then plug the unit then test the washer on the cold wash. If the problem persists it could be a water hose restriction or the timer circuit could be defective. If you have hot water at the normal pressure purchase a new hot water solenoid valve. With the electrical cord unplugged be sure to restore the correct wire connections on the hot and cold water solenoid. To replace the hot water solenoid remove the hose clamp and hose to replace the old valve. Connect the unit to the water and electrical outlet. Turn on the water and test the unit for leaks being careful not to touch any electrical and moving parts. If all checks ok and the correct temperature work, unplug the unit and reassemble.

Dripping water from outlet in door that fills the washer

djam919,

Your water valve may be leaking. Can you tell if the water dripping is hot or cold?
Some washing machines have one dual valve for hot and cold water, and some will have separate valves. You must remove the top of your unit to find out if your have one or two valves.
To remove the top of the machine you need to remove 3 screws on the back of the unit at the very top, then the top should slide towards the back of the machine ( with a litle push ), now lift the top off the unit.

To determine what valve to replace first you must look on the back of you washer and locate the hot and cold connections, then shut off the one of the water lines coming to your machine at the wall valve, if it continue leaking then you can tell that the opposite valve is the problem. ( wait for about 10 min to make sure that the water leaking isn't just left over water in the hose).

Good Luck

Make sure that the inlet solenoid is not blocked, the manual fill might be fine but the solenoid could be blocked.
