Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

2 Answers

Hello - I have a Canon DR-2580C with flatbed. While the 2580C itself works properly, I keep getting a 4431 error code (improper connection or motor error) when I attach the power cord from the 2580C or try to use the flatbed with OmniPage 17. I have double checked the lock mechanism on the 2580C, but still get the error message.

The 2580C works. No problem with the paper path. The 2580C, however, cannot connect or work with the flatbed. Paper shreds are not the problem.

Hello there, I'm a bit confused with the question here, you say it does work properly even though it gets the error message? Or you mean everything aside from the flatbed works? In most cases a simple power cycle will clear up your issue. Just unplug the power to the entire unit including the flatbed for 2 minutes, then plug back in. If this doesn't work, and you are sure the lock is not engaged (which it sounds like it isn't) then you are having a motor error which will need to be repaired. It may still be under warranty. Give Canon a call at 1-800-828-4040 to verify.

Thanks
Tim

Check for loose shreds of paper in the paper path. Then power cycle the Canon. Turn off the Canon, unplug the power cable from the outlet. After 5 minutes, plug the cable back in and turn the Canon back on.

Once it's turned on give for about 2 minutes and then try using it

Have a good eveneing!

Canon DR-2580C scanner only scanning half the page. What could be the problem?

Select Auto for page size. The scanning software displays scanned image in many options, including 'fit'. Choose 'fit' so that you see complete image.

"I get an error "Error in the back shading motor (4431) and the scanner stops. How can I fix it?

This error can be caused by a mechanical problem during the return of the shade. After many attempts, problem was fixed cutting both springs from pressure roll behind reading unit. The amount of spring removed changed from machine to machine. I cut 1 quarter of turn from spring and test the scanner. Procedure was repeated until problem was fixed. In worst scenario 2 turns were cutted. Be aware that cutting these springs will affect the scanned image quality.

Black at the bottom of scanned pages

There should not be a thick black line at the bottom, but could be from several things, light coming in from somewhere is my first guess, toner is almost out or the ribbon is getting stuck on the inside at that point. You may have to call Cannon and ask them.

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/). This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.

Try and scan a white paper. If the output is black, then may be the LEDs are not glowing, likely the wire is loose. Actually it is not easily reacheable! Try duplex scanning to check if both scan modules are fine.

Error message -4431

If the scanners keeps blinking while powering on, it is because it has not been intialised. Check for loose shreds of paper in the paper path. Unless the scanner intialises, it cannot scan. If simpel 'countonly' option works, then the scanner is okay.

Error Message-- Error in shading position (-4431)

The issue at hand here is a sensor error. Cut the power to the machine for at least five seconds. Then reboot the scanner and the sensors should reboot. This solved the problem for us. Good luck to you.
