Comcast Modem and TP-Link Wireless Router not connecting

I have Comcast as my Internet service. they supplied the Arris modem. I purchased a TP-Link 54M Wireless Router (TL-WR541G) for my laptop to be used in another part of the house. I followed all the directions, but I'm unsuccessful establishing a connection through the router. what am I doing wrong? It should be simple, but I really need step by step instructions. Thank you. I use Windows Vista.

    This didn't work. I have the same problem. the computer does show that there's a connection but it doesn't allow data to transmit or be received. I can't access the internet. Is it possible that Comcast is deliberately blocking any attempts from attaching routers without their technicians doing it for a fee?

Hi

1) First, go to "Start Menu" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network and Internet".

2) Now... go to "Network and Sharing Center" and select "Connect to a network

3) Choose "Show All" and hit the refresh button. If you find active network connections, select the one you want (TP-Link 54M in this case) click on "Connect" and don't forget to check the option that says "Start this connection automatically". If you check this option, Windows Vista will connect automatically to the selected network every time you log in.

If no networks are found, you can manually enter all network settings.

In the “Connect to a network” window, click on “Set up a connection or network” Select “Manually connect to a wireless network” and press the “Next” button.

First, enter the “Network name”. In some cases the network name is identical to the name of the router - for example - your router is a TP-Link 54M , so the name of the network is TP Link 54M.

Choose the security type and the encryption you use on your network. Now type the security key (this is found on a label on the bottom of your router and may be called WEP Key or Network Key) and check the option "Start this connection automatically".

Click the "Next" button, then click "Connect to..." and you should now be connected.

This procedure will connect your computer to your wireless router. If the router itself not connecting properly to the net you will have to contact your network provider to obtain the proper settings to configure the router to the internet.

    Hi



    The computer is connected to the router but the router itself has the wrong settings to connect to the internet. You can go into your routers menu to change these and it will work but you will need to contact Comcast to give you the exact settings they use for your broadband connection to enable your new router.



    There should be no in problem with them doing this as its entirely up to you what router you use.



    Another way you could do this is to get into the menu on your old router. If it is working correctly take note of the internet settings used on it for a Comcast connection. Then open the menu on your new router and input the exact same settings and it should work.



    Routers use a web address which you type into your browser e,g internet explorer to get access to the menu. This page will work as long as your router is connected and even if the web is not working on your new router the page will still open up.



    This link shows the typical addresses you need to use to open the menus on both of your routers.

    You may need an administration password to get into these particular settings and you should check your routers manual for this but on many routers the default user name is admin and password also is admin.

You have to connect the tablet to your Arris 862 gateway "comcast modem" the key to your wireless is on the bottom of the modem on white sticker. The key is case sensitive most generally all in caps. Your network name is as well on the sticker should be HOME- and a 4 digit number. To get the tablet to connect you need go into "settings" on the tablet and then tap "wireless or may say WIFI", Find the comcast modem/router name "the Home- whatever number it is click it then it should prompt you to type in the network key.

There's a reset button on the back of the modem. It'll power cycle it. That should work and if it doesn't make sure everything is connected and tightened.

first its a mac so no wonder its broken second its not your modem it would be your router settings. you may want to restore your device back to its defualts then try again.

comcast use 10.0.0.1 for ip address, I think
check direct tv box for internet settings for it's ip address should 10.0.0.2 maybe call directv maybe they could further.

  • You can use both Ethernet and USB interface to connect two PCs simultaneously with one cable modem.

  • If you plan to go wireless (and maybe connect more computers), you have to purchase a router to split/share the internet connection coming from the modem.

Cannot make a wireless connectiio work with Comcast internet


- Once you already configured the settings on your router, and 2nd step that you do now is to power cycle the modem and the router completely for about a minute.
Note:
- You must also remove the battery back up of your cable modem in order to refresh the settings on it.
- After the power cycling procedure, turn On 1st the modem and make sure all the link lights on your modem are completely stable before you turn On the router.

Can you connect if you are directly wired into the router?

You may want to try using a ball point pen and pressing the reset button on the back of the arris. Let it reboot and try again.

Some netgear routers come with the wireless disabled out of the box, so you need to be hard wired when you run the CD or if you try to connect through your browser 192.168.1.1

How do I connect this router?


You will need at least two ethernet cables like the one that is currently connecting yur PC to your Comcast Modem. Use one cable to connect between your pc and any of the ports labled 1, 2, 3, or 4 on the router. Another ethernet cable should be connected between the modem and the port labeled WAN on the router. Then (if you havent already), turn off the power to all three, the modem, the router, and the pc. then, turn on the power to just the modem and wait until the lights on the front of it stablize (usually about 60 to 120 seconds). Then turn on the router and wait another 60 seconds. Finally, boot up the computer. You should be able to connect to the internet. the next step will be to set up the wireless part of the router.

Only real trouble shooting I can suggest is power cycle the modem and router. If you have the Comcast Digital Voice modem make sure you push the reset button on the back as there is a battery in the unit and unplugging won't do anything.
