Video graphics card

How can I change from an onboard video graphics to a PCI installed graphics card. My onboard video graphic won't let change to the PCI card. I'm trying upgrade my graphics to more memory using the PCI card instead of the onboard graphics.

Re: video graphics card

Being a PCI card, not a AGP or PCI-E the system may not simply switch to that one a primary display adapter when you install it, in the bios under advanced system settings or intergrated periferals, you should have an option to change the primary display adapter, make sure a PCI adapter is included.. if it isnt, chage it to recognise a PCI card as a primary adapter, turn the system off, and install your card then, depending on the bios/model of the mainboard on some of those dells, it may be a little hard to find, ive had to play with a few of them

Re: video graphics card

You should just have to plug the card in to the PCI slot and install the drivers. After thats done try removing the driver for the onboard graphics I had onboard switched to a geforce 8800 and it worked just fine for me. Did you say your running a Dell?

You don't have enough information for anyone to help you we need your PC brand and model number but based on your problem I would check the Bios sometimes you have to turn your onboard graphics controller on also some older computers have a jumper setting on the mother board for this and it wont work if you have another pci video card installed so uninstall any pci video cards you have inside the computer

My integrated motherboard graphic card is damaged and i am installing a new graphic card but i need to disable any built-in graphic capabilities on the motherboard. can u please help?

Enter the bios and disable the onboard video card. If that is not an option, then there should be a setting for the video to boot to AGP or PCI. Change to PCI.

There may be a setting in your BIOS for your video output.

If you were originally using the onboard VGA video output, there may be an option in the BIOS to switch to PCI output.

Vidio is not working, it is part of the mother board, want to purchase new motherboard and change myself.

Try a pci video card first, computer is so old that any upgrade at all is going to cost you a lot of money.

I have a hp presario SR5440AN and am trying to find out if i can use a pci express graphic card in it

Yes you can, if your computer has an AGP slot (advance graphic port) then it would be better to use a AGP graphics card instead on a PCI graphics card.
I can't remember if the Presario has an onboard graphics controller on the motherboard, if it has and you install a AGP or PCI graphics card, you may need to disable the onboard graphics controller in the BIOS.

Are You sure the graphics card is not defect?
When I installed a graphics card instead of the onboard
circuit, the SIS Mirage was disabeled automatically.
I have installation CD for the graphics, of course.
Also, I thought that disabeling devices could be done
through the control panel, "hardware devices".

Add in Video Card

Yes 6 beeps indicates that there is no video card. Remove the card and plug into another PCI slot as some like to be the first PCI bus used. You will more than likely have to remove a sound card or some other interface do this plug in your new card into the slot and power on.

If there is still 6 beeps there are two possibilities
1 The Video PCI card id faulty
2 The Card is not compatible with your machine.

I do hope this helps you you also may check that you don't have to disable the card within the bios settings as sometimes even though the hand book tell you it should auto change sometime you will have to do this manually.

Thanks J
