Question about Toshiba (K000823110) Motherboard

1 Answer

Tecra M3 won't boot, hdd light comes on then off.

Initially I started getting weird display (lines down the screen etc) which I have found a plethora of posts about the video cards on these babies. Anyway I tried removing the driver, and it worked OK on just vga but of course very slow scrolling. Reinstall the driver and it'd boot and windows runs OK for a few minutes and then colourful screen and no response at all. Had to power down.
Well this got progressively worse until now I can't even get the thing to boot. I've removed ram and re-seated it. Tried other known good ram too. When I power the unit up the hdd light comes on but it doesn't spin up, and after a few seconds that light goes out. If I leave it on for another few seconds the fan starts up too.
I know my hdd is OK, can put it in another machine.

Thanks Geekman - to answer the first part, yes I can boot it in an identical Tecra M3 and it works. I suspect my laptop simply isn't getting to the windows boot stage, although I can't be certain with no display showing. have tried an external monitor too. No go. If my hdd is fine, then does this suggest main board issue (or at least the video component which then = main board anyway) Oh and thanks for the speedy reply!

The hard disk can be installed in another computer, but it won't boot up and run unless the computer is the same make and model with the same devices as the previous computer.
If it is not then you need to do a fresh Windows install to get a working computer.
What you can do as an alternative is to install the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Your hard drive may have gone south. Remove it and check with diagnostic software. Bad sectors in critical areas of operating system data will do this.

Toshiba tecra M3 wont start. Upon startup it shows a black screen and says problem loading operating system

download form bootdisk.com "XP Boot" and burn to cd in an .iso (bootable) format.

boot from the cdrom (you may have to go into BIOS and look for a "boot priority" option to allow you to boot from cd, to acess BIOS, hit "escape" and then either "F1" or "F2" as soon as you turn it on). run fdisk /mbr from the XP Boot cd. with this tool, try to repair the mbr. if that does not work, you need to use this tool to erase the mbr and reinstall windows.

Hi, I have a toshiba tecra m3, it boots fine and runs fine but the screen is black, if I close it and open it again the screen comes on for a couple of seconds and goes black again. Any thoughts would be...

Try connecting it to an external monitor, it could be that your laptop is either set to display through an external monitor or it could be set on a screen size too large for the laptop screen.

No Screen display on tecra m3 laptop

if you go into safe mode (F8) on boot-up, does the graphics show up?? If so, it's the graphics board/chip on the MB. I have one and have the same problem - no amount of loading drivers, re-install BIOS, etc. would help. sometimes it works, but most times when you start up, shows the Toshiba logo, and once windows starts, goes to a black screen.

Toshiba Tecra M3 will not boot, no video, pwr + hdd light on

If not beeps you didn't hear then it's your Motherboard. But, there other problems aside on it.
Laptop maybe have a problem with Power Connection, see to it that your Laptop Power Adapter is supply exact voltage to your Laptop, low voltage power also may cause not to give power your laptop sufficient, if it is does.
And if none of this then it's your Motherboard.
Hope this tip might help you.
Good luck!

Answer to your question

You will need to get into the bios, and set the CD drive to boot before the hard drive. Since your in this uncompromising loop, remove the hard drive, then start the machine. It should go to the initial Toshiba screen and you will see the prompt on what to press to get to the bios, or utility set up. Once your in the bios, find the boot order and set the CD drive over the hdd. Then put the hdd back in, the recovery or operating system disc in the CD drive, and start the machine. It should now boot from the disc. At this point you will want to do a system repair. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hdd, and install a new operating system. If the hdd will not format or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hdd has failed and will need replaced. If you need any futher aststance, just ask.
