On the base in front of the motor you should see a couple slots, put the weel on the left, and the bottom
lip of the ideler pully will click into one of thosd slots
to keep the tension, pull a loop of the belt under the wheel on the ideler, that loop then catches the motor hub

Whirlpool dryer model WED5500XW heats up but drum will not spin. Belt is still on the drum. Any ideas what to look for

Hello Betty Lue Sydnor...

Great question! Better detail...

The Belt is still on... it is either your drive pulley or the tension pulley... has come loose.

If you watch the attached video... all will come clear...

This looks to be a fairly cumbersome job... but if you snap pictures
as you go you will be able to put everything exactly back where it needs to be to work...

My whirlpool dryer makes a horribly loud racket. Is the idler pulley or the tension pulley

There is only 1 pulley in most driers, so the idler and the tension pulley are the same part. The idler pulley is on the tension arm, located beneath the drum. A squealing sound is usually associated with the pulley. If it is a slapping or thumping sound it may be the belt, which goes around the drum and the motor shaft. The part numbers are on the parts, or you can order by model. The idler is less than $10.

Please, can you tell me how to tighten the belt on an Inglis dryer model J073500

Sorry for the troubles but you cant tighten the belts on those or any dryer for that matter. Here is the problem your belt is worn out and that's why it is loose and if you have replaced it and its loose you are installing the belt incorrectly around the idler pulley or have the wrong belt or your idler pulley is worn out. I hope this helps solve the issue your having and for instructions on installing the belt go to youtube and type in whirlpool dryer drum belt installation they will show you the correct way to do it and whirlpool builds your model dryer.

WHIRLPOOL ELECTRIC DRYER.MODEL # LEQ9508PW1. DRYER IS NOT SPINNING. MOTOR IS HEATING AND RUNNING FINE. I OPENED TOP AND BELT IS ON BUT LOOSE. BELT IS NOT BROKEN JUST LOOSE. WHAT COULD THIS BE?

You will have to go farther and remove the drum.
I believe your problem is that the belt has slipped off of the motor, or has slipped off the idler arm with pulley brackett.

Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Belt drum replacement

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured dryer (which inlcudes Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Kitchenaid, and Frigidaire), just follow these steps:

a. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

b. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

c. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and locate diagram H.

NOTE: It is normal for the idler pulley to come loose when there is no belt tension.

If your dryer is not manufactured by Whirlpool, or if you simply aren't sure, please post back with your model number so I can give you more accurate information. I hope you find this helpful.

Whirlpool model WGD5300SQ dryer belt is off, roller is laying loose, is there a diagram?

If the belt slipped off, this will cause the idler pulley to come loose. This is normal with no tension on the pulley to hold it in place. To re-install, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

Look for Whirlpool and refer to diagram H. If you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Need to install drive belt- lady kenmore dryer..loop designation

The belt probably broke first, which caused the idler pulley to come loose. This is normal. With no tension on the pulley it will commonly fall over. To re-install, follow these steps:

1. Loop the new drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum.

If this is a Kenmore dryer, it will be manufactured by Whirlpool. Refer to diagram H. If you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

The idler roller wheel is off and i don't know exactly where or how to put it back on for a Whirlpool Dryer model # WED53003Q0

Go to repairclinic.com and click on "Repair Help" in the left-hand column. On the next page, click on "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link on the left-hand side of the page. If your dryer has a removable back panel, refer to drawing H. If the back panel of the dryer is NOT removable, refer to drawing K. I hope this helps you.

PS Most dryers with a removable back panel, have the lint screen filter on top of the dryer. If this is a simple matter of re-installing an idler pulley that has come loose, place the "foot" of the idler pulley in the slot on the bottom of the dryer case with the wheel to your right. Pull the wheel to your left to keep tension on the pulley assembly and this will keep it seated in position.
