Hi

1. You need to check that the drivebelt has not come off the machine. To check this - if you notice that the drum is showing less or no resistance than normal it is likely that the belt has snapped or come loose from the drive pulley.

2. Check the lid switch. The washer will not spin or agitate if the lid switch is not functioning properly. Press the lid switch by hand. The switch should click when pressed. If the switch clicks when pressed the switch is probably good. Ideally this should be checked with an ohm meter. Disconnect the power. Measure continuity across the actuator arm and the switch. If there is no continuity the switch is bad.

3 Worn carbon brushes in the motor is also a common cause of this fault. These brushes in the motor can be replaced and the motor will need to be removed from the machine for service replacement of brushes.

As this is a top loading machine a disintegrated agitator coupling is a common issue and can be a cause of the machine not agitating - however if the machine is also not spinning this is unlikely to be the main cause of the problem.

I have included the following link which is a good breakdown of your machine and shows where the various component parts are located. Click on the various sections to see a breakdown of the machines components.

Washing machine fills, but will not agitate, drain or spin

Coupling broken which joins the motor to the gear box. Look and see or listen if the motor is running then if nothing else is working coupling is broke, easy to replace.

HELP!! Washer machine wont work. Doesnt drain or spin. Clicks to drain and spin but nothing happens, the timer still counts down as if everything is fine.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

If the machine starts, fills and goes through its' agitate cycle fine, the problem is likely not in the motor or transmission.

This type of washer uses a reversible motor. When turning one way, the machine agitates the clothes.

When the timer gets to the spin cycle, the motor reverses, drives the pump (directly from the motor) for a period of time and then goes into spin cycle.

This appears then that is is either the connection to the motor itself or the timer.

The timer is driven by a separate motor on the control panel so if the contacts for the spin cycle are worn, the timer will move but the motor won't turn on.

No spin - agitate

Hi,

You just do this

  • Test the lid switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drover belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission
  • Inspect the Agitator
  • Inspect the pump coupling
  • Test the Water switch level
Good luck !!!

Doesnt agitate or spin.

Mine is 1 1/2 years old and this worked for me

unplug from power for at least 30 seconds

turn the dial to spin but don't pull out

plug back in to power and open and shut completely so switch is engaged solidly 11 times in 15 seconds.

pull out knob to turn on

This should clear a error code.

hope it helps!

GE wcxr1070a washing machine. fills with water

Check the water level switch and the plastic tubing to the switch.
Sometimes soap scum stops up the plastic hose and the water level switch does not close to send power to the timer.
If the plastic hose is good and the water level fills and stops replace the water level switch.
