I lost the usb chord and cant get the router to charge. I do not know which one I need for this specific, Ativa, router.

this is a 24 hour free technical support number for Ativa... 866-912-8482

you can also call 18002234456 (BELKIN) and select the option for networking products... Belkin & Ativa are same...only the brand name differs...

Setting up Wireless on router and wireless security

For setting up any router you can follow the below simple steps

  1. Connect the router with a power cable and switch on the poser, reset the router with its reset button normally you can find the reset button on the rear side of the router for 30 seconds and then switch off and on the power
  2. After reset conenct the router to any laptop or desktop with a cable and also connect the router to the modem or the internet service provider cable
  3. after all connection lights will come on go to right hand side corner of the computer and check if the network connection is showing connected
  4. Once you are connected with a wired connection open a page of internet explorer and type in router addess normally it will be or and then type the username and password default usernames and passwords can be found in router manual.
  5. Once the router setup page is open you can confugure the router easily without the CD setup.
  6. The advantage is you do not have to run the setup CD and you can also do wirless settings for your wireless laptops or devices
  7. Go to the wirless settings page and you can select the wireless on and off or you can setup a wireless security to avoide your router with unauthorized acess
  8. I would recomend always keep the wireless network secured if you are using the router for a home or small office as there can be people who will be using your bandwidth for free without your permission
  9. one more tip i would like to give whenever any kind of setup is required on the router do it by a wired connection only and not thought a wireless pc or laptop as it can disconnect you from the router in between of your setup
  10. WEP is the kind of wireless security which is easy to setup and remember and most wireless cards of laptops and computers support it
All the best with your wireless router configuration and security setup

I have a desktop and a laptop (new for xmas) and I want to set up the laptop to the wireless-N Router Model WRT160N. I am set up with internet through a bundle system through our television. Do I plug the...

first a couple of things.
if your router has wireless support your laptop (if new) should have a wireless adapter built in, so basically your destop computer can be wirely plugged into the router and your laptop shoud "connect wirelessly" to your adapter
so this is how your set up should look like

--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ----- wire----- desktop

--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ))wireless))) laptop

you need read up a bit, here are some links that will have info you need

manual for wireless configuration (select the proper revision for your router and check user manual)

configure wireless network for vista

read up and if you have any questions post back.

hope that helps.

Ativa wireless G router

Not really enough info here, but here goes;
You have the router secured with a security code but your laptop isn't, or is secured with a different one. The instructions that came with the router will tell you how to set this up, you HAVE to read them if you ever expect to get it to work. If you don't want to, or can't for some reason, then at least post router brand and model #, laptop brand, model # and wireless card brand and model # along with what steps you have already taken.

Laptop could not detect linksys on second day

Couple of things you can try here:

1) Connect your laptop (or another computer if possible) to the router using a network cable. You should then be able to see your configuration info. Make sure that the computer you are using to connect (wired) to the router is set up to use DHCP. Once in there, depending on what you find, you might be able to fix it yourself.

2) Factory reset the router and go through the setup options as if it were brand new.

Hope this helps.

Ativa router

ok, fine....

Reset the Ativa router to factory defaults. This is normally accomplished by holding the reset button down for 10 seconds or more with power on for most routers.

Once you do that, you need to connect the computer directly to the motorola modem and configure it to be in "bridge mode".

Putting your modem into bridge mode means to bypass the router function and make it work as a simple modem. And, yes, if you do that then you must configure your wireless router to make the internet connection. If you don't want to do that, you can leave the modem as it is, I think the Ativa wireless router can still work even if your modem is still in PPPoE & you can still configure the router as an ethernet switch & wireless access point.

Now you can connect the router (after powering EVERYTHING down), turn on the modem, wait for steady connect, turn on the router, wait two minutes, boot the connected PC.

After you get a wired machine connected, you can enter the Ativa setup and configure the wireless security.

Open up IE or Firefox. On address bar, type in "" and click enter.

Ativa wireless setup should load up. On top right, there is a Log In button. If this is your first time login in, leave it blank and submit.

Check up on the following: a) Internet WAN > Connection Type > select Dynamic; b) Wireless > Channel and SSID > Disable ESSID Broadcast, also set wireless channel to AUTO; b) Wireless > Security > set up your security, you should know what to do.

Now for the most important thing. Click Firewall, and DISABLE IT!! By doing this, it said that you'll will be vulnerable to hacker etc...blah blah, but with security keys to access wireless and virus program/window firewall should be enough to make you stop worrying. Apply changes, then the thing restarts.

*** also leave MTU setting to 1454 & set it to auto connect; leave the DNS & MAC settings alone; also leave LAN settings as it is.

i would greatly appreciate if you could give me the modem's exact model no. (such as SB4200, 2100 etc.) and the router's as well....
