Brush not moving in Bissell pro-heat

I have a Bissell pro-heat carpet cleaner that works well....but I just noticed the brush no longer is moving.  I checked the belt, and it is ok. It is spinning a little plastic piece that it is attached too, but the brush is still not rotating.  Any ideas what to do? The brush is free moving, can be hand spun or move up and down easily. Thanks.

If the belt is more then 6 months old or more, then the belt will have to be replaced reguardless of the way it lookes. belts can stretch over time and when you put the machine on the carpet the friction causes the brush to stop because the belt has stretched. i would try this first. hope this helps

Why doesnt bissell carpet cleaner brush turn properly

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

The reason for the brushes to stop when it is above any surface is there is a switch in the handle that stops the brushes so it dont burn your motor up it may have a faulty switch.

maybe there's not enough vacuum or it hasn't been primed enough. I have a proheat that drove me crazy till I started leaving the heat switch on. I get wads of carpet fiber that mat around brush and spit out on the carpet, so I frequently remove them. I'm just wondering if after you empty the water, it may not have built up the suction. Good luck! hope this may be helpful
