Replacing the DC input connector on a Sharp m4000 widenote laptop

Replacing the DC input connector on a Sharp PC-m4000 Widenote laptop computer.
A user snapped off the center pole/conductor of the DC power input jack on the laptop. It seems crazy to destroy a perfectly working laptop because a 10cent part is busted.

I have contacted a couple service places (listed on the web) including those that specialize in replacing these jacks and they cannot be sure that they will do this. When I contacted Sharp they can't tell me if replacing a jack or a motherboard is possible or required and provide a ballpark cost.

The machine worked fine until the battery ran out of juice. And because the jack is busted I can't recharge it.

In order to be sure the outside (not sharp) service providers would like pictures of the jack - This would seem to require opening the unit up, to get images inside.

While I have opened and serviced laptops before (Dell, Toshiba) the Sharp seems put together differently. Does anyone have a diagram or instructions on how to disassemble the widenote computer?

This kind of repair would seem standard, but Sharp wont suggest a cost figure to replace one or both.

Sincerely,

Sigmund@uic.edu

I agree with what you say, that is why I want to employ someone who does this frequently. I wont attempt to solder the motherboard.

The two services I have contacted would like a closer look (i.e. pictures from the inside) to see if they have a compatible jack. That is why I am interesed in diagrams, pictures, and/or steps on how to open it up.

The SHARP service center wont give any ballpark estimates from what it would cost to replace the jack to the worst case scenario of replacing the motherboard. These are two seemingly standard jobs that they could cost out.

Or does anyone know a service out there that has and could replace the jack on a Sharp widenote pc-m4000 laptop?

    Thanks again,

    Sigmund

Yes it can be replaced and it has to be done with experience in soldering desoldering or the mobo will be junk. Splitting the cases is only a small part of the job if you have no experience in soldering methods. See if there is another way that you can charge the battery but I can not imagine it to be convienent

Make sure there is no disk in the dvd drive, all usb devices un-plugged and try again. If you still have the same problem then it sounds like you hard drive has crashed.

How do i load tape to computer?

The simplest solution is to use a FireWire cable connected between camera DV output and FireWire PC Input.
If your PC or laptop do not has a FireWire Input, you can use an USB capture device like EasyCap connected to your PC by USB interface and to your Camcorder by RCA connector or S-Video connector.

Screen getting dark on sharp pc-m4000

You most likely have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp. To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions. Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

Dell Inspiron 1505; Battery does not charge; DC jack is loose..

You have either a faulty connector plug on the power adapter which connects into the laptop or the loose power input socket on the laptop is faulty. This is because you need to press the connector upwards to make electrical contact.
Test the connectot plug on the power adapter with a multi-meter, wriggle the connector to see if your get the voltage to fluctuate, if it does not then the connector is OK anf the fault is in the laptop power input socket.
If the fault is in the power adapter plug or the laptop's power input socket, this can be repaired, a techo would have no trouble in repairing these faults.

Macbook pro + IBM m4000

Depends on the connections you have on both. Most MacBook Pros have a DVI connector on the side. If the IBM projector takes that sort of input, then all you need is that cable.
If the IBM projector has a VGA input, then you'll need an adaptor from DVI to VGA.
(VGA input is standard monitor looking connector.)
