Try this take machine oil and oil eerier where the buttons that
changes for different stiches, then set the machine for straight
stich take a piece of fabric and sew on it for a 1 minute do the same for every different stich do this for halve hour, by doing this
your getting the different stiches in order and gear to synchronize
together.
hope this helps.

SOURCE: How do I change the stiches?

You can do all of these stitches by using different combinations of your stitch selector, stitch width and stitch feed knobs, for instance, on the panel I can see on your machine:

http://www.jo-ann.com/joann/product/images/52659.jsp?CATID=cat3122&PRODID=prd11333

Stitches 1, 2 & 3 are straight stitches, centered, left and right. Really basic stuff, not different stitches at all. 4,5,6,7 & 8 are zig-zag stitches of different widths. 9 is the widest zig-zag (no. 8) on a finer stitch length, etc...

I think you should try and get an instruction manual for your machine. After a lengthy search of my usual manual sources, I've determined that that this may not be so easy. I think you should contact White on their 800 number and let them try and help you... 1-800-331-3164.

If you found this helpful, please vote generously as I receive nothing other than acknowledgement for my time.

SOURCE: Singer 5050

I was hoping you would have got another answer, I have a mechanical sewing machine ( Singer 5040) with the exact same problem. However, if i use the programed stitches I can sew a zigzag. If i do it manually and set the zigzag width to any width ( even the widest) I get only the same straight stitch, and no mater what length I select it is the same too, very close to gether about 1 1/2 inch stitch.
I took my entire maching apart to expose inside both top side and underneath, nothing apeared loose or broke and i oiled it up. I bought a new bobbin holder and still the same effect. So it has to be something serious is my conclusion...sounds like a trip to Sears to me...LOL

SOURCE: Machine sews zigzag although stitch is set at 0 for straight

It must be a design flaw- things don't always last like they are supposed to. I would personally check the physical reason it is not responding... knowing what it would take to make it stop moving- or whatis causing it to. *perhaps the switch isn't working to stop it- or the mechanism that controls it is worn down. If it was new- I'd return it- but there are only a few options at this point.

Do i need cam to do zigzag stitch on Kenmore 158.17600

This video will probably be handy, although not quite your model, it should be very close. Generally, your machine should be able to do straight & zig-zag stitch without cams. Cams were usually for decorative stitches.

Can I Purchase a zigzag attachment for my 604 Straight sewer machine slant needle touch and sew model?

If your machine was made to be straight-stitch only, you cannot change that. However, a straight-stitch machine usually makes the best straight stitch of all. Machines with zig-zag capability tend to make a not-so straight straight stitch . (Good for quilt piecing!)

Singer sewing machine needle moving to the side after it's in the fabric for a zigzag stitch

If you can grab the hand wheel and move it right and left, then it probably needs a plastic collar that goes next to the left upper shaft bushing.
If not then the cam timing needs to be adjusted.

1249380 kenmore sewing machine

Depends on what stitch you intend to use. I do a lot of mending with a three step zigzag set to maximum width and minimum length -- see: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/24395076 A wide, short zigzag stitch is another popular choice, as is a straight stitch worked back and forth over the area: http://www.running-w-scissors.com/2014/01/tutorial-patch-mend.html

If you're just mending a seam that's come unstitched, a straight stitch or zigzag stitch similar to what's already in the seam is what you're looking for.

My white rotary model 2221 sewing machine will no longer switch from straight to decorative or zigzag stitching. What can I do to fix it? I have cleaned and oiled the machine and have recently used it...

it's possible that the cams that do the zigzag stitch could be worn or have gotten damaged
it would be a good idea to have it serviced

I would suggest to look in the yellow pages & see what sewing machine repair shop are in your area.

and if you do get it serviced, when you first get it home, sew on it & make sure it works correctly, they normally have a 15 to 30 day time limit for you to check the machine out & making sure it works ok, & make sure that you don't just pay for a cleaning..

maybe a service call is in order. I have a 30 year old huskavarna can't spell it, but the repair people said they don't make the machines out of metal anymore so if you have one you liked it is worth the 200.00 of it needs a new part, and they clean them really well as well, good luck hope it works K

Ingenuity-needle hits pressure foot when zigzag stitching

Reduce the width of the zig zag as a short term fix, but it seems that you either have the incorrect foot attached, or the ZZ width setting needs adjusting.

If, when the needle is set to be centred, is it actually slightly off-centre ?? You may do worse than have a service done, explaining the issue you face as well as a general go over.

As this was posted some time ago, I hope it has been resolved for you.
