HI, the DC in icon flashs orange, that would mean its a power supply malfunction, I tried turnnig it on with the battery and power cord, waited five mintues, then tried with battery only then power cord only. The results are the same. Off for the first two seconds, error code eight followed by this blink code 01000010 half a second, full second, four halfs of a second, followed by a half of a second and repeats the cycle. What does this blink code mean?

So you have the Battery Icon and the DC in icon (charger - power)

Are they flashing / blinking? which colors?

Battery icon - Lights orange - Quick charge
battery icon - Lights green - Battery is fully charged and ac adapter is connected.
battery icon - blinks orange (even intervals) - the battery level is low
battery icon - flashes orange - the power switch is pressed on when the battery level is too low.

Doesn't light - any other than above.

DC in icon
Lights green - DC power is being supplied from the ac adapter
blinks orange - Power supply malfunction
doesn't light - Any condition other than above.

If the DC icon blinks.

1. remove the battery and ac adapter to cut power supply to computer.

wait 5 minutes
2. reinstall the battery and ac adapter.

If the power supply microprocessor detects a malfunction the dc in icon blinks orange, the blink pattern indicates an error.

First off for 2 secnds
Error code 8 blinks

1 = light is on for one second
0 = on for half second
Interval between data bits - off for a half second.

if the problem remains write down exactly how it is blinking.

Also try turning on the laptop with just battery and then with just the power adapter.

completely unplug and remove machine from any power when you try this.

to try the machine with just battery remove battery and the power adapter, wait 1 minute and plug in the battery. does it turn on?

If not, unplug the battery and wait 1 minute, now try without battery and with power adapter instead, what happens? do you get a blink code or does the machine turn on?

The issue is the mainboard since you have already replaced the power adapter and the battery, you will have to send the laptop to repair - get the mainboard repaired (almost no one does that) or replace the mainboard.

If you are inside warranty contact your dealer or toshiba for warranty repairs which should be free.

If you are outside of warranty try a toshiba service center to get the machine repaired or ask for a repair estimate, any other non toshiba service center will most likely just replace the board, a toshiba specialist may be able to fix this without replacing the board.

In the end the components of the mainboard are too small for us to fix, also the mainboard is multilayer (many layers of circuit board put together on top of each other) which makes the repair next to impossible.

If you are interested in replacing the board yourself.
the price of the mainboard goes around 100 to 500 usd $. You can check for replacement parts at www.pchub.com

    A40 series mainboard
    http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/64-31719...

note that the above mainboard on the link may not be the exact same mainboard your model has.

if you need anything else let me know.
    Thanks,
    Ekse.

Either the power supply is not working or the battery has failed and will not hold a charge. If the laptop is 3 or more years old, the battery is the likely suspect.
