PS3 DVD Upscaling

I don't see a difference in the dvd upscaling. Am I doing something wrong? I set the settings on normal and there is no difference in picture quality, and I am using an HDMI cable.

As i understand the PS3 automaticly upconverts a regular dvd if you have the upscalinng feature enabled. I know its hard to notce the difference but it isnt always noticable.

I have problems with the audio of movies for Region 2 DVD's. I do not have any problems with TV Series, just movies. I can hear the background music, etc. but not what the actors are saying.

Check the sound settings of the player. It might be that you have the wrong sound settings for playing back DVD's. If you use a surround system, check the centre channels settings.

HD image format, is it possible?

Hi.

Yes, it is possible but it is not worth, and the result will not be true HD.

To get HD format you need to go through a process called upscaling. This can be done connecting the DVD player output to an upscaling device, similar to the ones that are commonly used for game consoles.

The result will be a standard definition picture where each point is traduced into 4 or more points in the HD output.

In no way you can get true HD out of a DVD, simply because the smaller points with the higher definition do not exist in the original DVD.

The upscaling device will cost from $30 to $80, and the result will not be true high definition. Considering that today you can buy a basic BRD player from about $80, buying an upscaler is definitively not worth.

This is a better solution, true HD and built in upscaling for your old DVD: Sony BDP-S360

Panasonic DMREX85EBS recorder upscaling problems

Check the HDMI settings and your TV specifications. Press Functions on your remote and go to Display (up/down arrows). Press Enter. Go to Connections and again Enter. Then HDMI settings and Enter. Look for HDMI video settings. If the setting is automatic, the unit sends the output it believes is best for the TV. You will notice that the compatible video outputs are the only ones available for selection. (A new cable may be worth testing.)

I hope this helps.

Our ps3 quit recognizing dvd's It sill plays games and bluerays

Try setting your resolution to 480i/p and see if you can play one then.
I've also heard of turning off dvd upscaling, although your ps3 should be able to upscale your dvds.

My player seems not able to upscale the signal from my antennea and DVDs

Upscaling will only occur when playing DVDs. You have to use an HDMI connection from the DVD player to the tv. For upscaling of DVD's you will also have to setup the upscaling resolution in the DVD player's setup menu. Be sure to set the resolution to one that your tv will support.

If your tv does not have a HDMI input, then you will not be able to use the upscaling feature.

Upscaling will not occur on antenna signals. This is not possible because the hardware (inside DVD player) is only meant to upscale DVD video.

Again, to upscale DVDs ONLY, you will have to have an HDMI cable going from DVD player to TV, set up your upscaling options on your DVD setup menu and have a TV that has a HDMI input and is capable of recieving the upscaled resolution you have set your DVD player to.

If you have any further question regarding this, let me know!

Our ps3 won't play movies. It returns to the main screen and asks to turn off the system.

Try This:
Do you have the ps3 set to one output resolution only? Unless you have switched on multiples, and checked out your upscaling settings, your ps3 might be spitting the dummy because it can't show you want you want it to!

Try this:
Have you got the dvd upscaler turned on? if not and you've got the PS3 set to anything above dvd resolution (576) it might not scale the picture up to match it, so as above you will need to check every resolution setting up to tv max i.e 1080i or 1080p whichever you have.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Optical input from Sony PS3 Playstation.

Have you tried setting the PS3 on linear PCM output instead of bitstream? The DVR 50 may not say Dolby Digital since the optical cable goes directly from the PS3 to it but you may get the surround channel output you're looking for.

TV / DVD Recorder HDMI issue

By default most HDMI DVD players are set to produce their picture output on the Scart connection. This allows configuration of the device on all TVs.

However your manual should tell you (Probably in techno speak) what you need to do so switch it to HDMI mode.

I don;t have a copy but I am searching for it on the net. If I find out how I will let you know.
