SOURCE: Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.

SOURCE: The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

SOURCE: hoover aquamaster

sounds like you need to attach the air hose

with reservoir in place you clip on the lid with tubes attached, one of them goes down to the floor cleaning nozzle, the other tube should be about 20cm long with an end piece,

this is the air hose and it fits into a small hole under the reservoir on the motor housing (the heavy mains powered part that clips onto the big recovery drum that sits on floor)

it's mentioned briefly in the manual, here it is in pdf form http://www.box.net/shared/rnh39ffjcq

Turn it over when open up and run it. Use the pads of your fingers to try and sop the brush. DON'T stick your fingers in it! All you are trying to do is see if resistance will stop the brush turning. If that passes the test, and the most likely cause is that you have a suction issue. You need to check all the airways from the top of the brush to the waste canister. The canister must also be a good seal. I had one of them and got rid of it for a Dyson.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Can you hand-shampoo a car's fabric headliner and fabric seats with the Lux shampooer?

You can use the shampoo and a soft bristle brush to do so, but due to the size of the Floor Pro, no.
If you happen to have the Little Pro from years ago you could use that on the seats, but I don't recommend it on the headliner.

Brushes donot turn when asked to shampoo

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine will have to be replaced. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below.

The brushes won't turn on my hoover steam vac dual v

Hi There,

Unfortunately the answer above is far from helpful. The filter has absolutely nothing to do with your brushes not spinning, and you can really replace the turbine yourself without having to take it into a shop to fix it. Here's a much more helpful diagnosing of how to check the brushes, and fix the turbine if needed.

There can be serveral things that may have gone wrong with your Hoover so that the brushes stop spinning. Unlike the other "expert" above I will walk you through step by step on how to diagnosis this problem, and fix it. Unfortunately there is no belt or band on this model, but instead it's actually a turbine assembly that drives this brush.

Possible Problem #1. Usually the most common problem when the brushes stop spinning is that the brushes have simply gotten clogged with something that is preventing them from spinning. Especially if you have pets in the home, this is a common problem. Here's how you can clean these brushes.

First, turn the machine upside down so that the brushes are facing upwards. Pull down on the upwards on the brushes and they will easily snap right out of the mahcine completely. . Use a pressurized water hose with spray nozzle is ideal) and spray each brush with water to dislodge any pet hair. You should be able to get these brushes spinning when you spray them. Spray each brush until the brushes are spinning pretty fast. Re-insert the brushes into the machine, and test to see if the cleaning has fixed your problem. It's important to make sure that the brush switch on the top of the machine is turned to "Rotating Brush Speed Hi", and that the handle of the machine is reclined down. There is an internal switch inside the machine that turns the brushes off when the machine is in the upright position, so you'll need to step on the handle release pedal to ensure that this switch is engaged. Hopefully the brushes just needed to be cleaned, and they will now work now that you have reinserted them. If this still didn't fix your problem, move on to the next possible problem.

Possible problem #2: If the cleaning didn't fix your problem, remove the brushes from the machine again. Once the brushes have been removed, the handle reclined, and the brush switch turned to fast, turn the machine on. Where the brushes were sitting you'll see a square shaped hole (pictured below) that the brush stem fits into that actually spins the brushes. This part should be spinning while the machine is on. Here's a picture of that part:

If this part is not spinning, then your Turbine Gear Assembly has gone bad and needs to be replaced. If this part spins however, then this indicates that your brush block is gone bad, and needs to be replaced.

Here are links to the exact parts for your model that may need to be replaced:

Turbine Gear Assembly:

Here's also a link to a Fixya repair solution that I've done explaining step by step how to replace the turbine gear:

MY WIFE BOUGHT THIS FOR ME FOR FATHERS DAY GIFT ABOUT ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW OR SO,BUT I HAVE THIS PROBLEM THAT THE BRUSH DOS'NT SPIN ANYMORE EVERYTIME I PUT THE SWITCH ON FOR BRUSH ON,THE HOSES BRUSH SPIN IS...

This unit uses a turbine assy to turn the brushes. The brushes could have something jamming them. Remove the brush unit, it is held on 2 spring hooks 1 on each side. The brush unit is driven thru a 1/4" square post, only one brush is driven and it drives the next then it drives the next etc. If something is jammed in these gears it will stop the entire brush assy. The turbine assy could be bad, but I would check the brush assy first.

Even though the brush is spinning, the belt is probably worn out and stretched. when you vacuum the shag carpet, it puts more drag on the brush. try running it on a shorter carpet or hard floor for a few minutes. if it doesn't smoke, then you know it's your belt. if it does smoke, then it's probably the motor burning up.

The brush rollers on my hoover mach 5 won't turn. I've cleaned everything and checked the belts and everything checks out fine. I had the vacuum for about a year.

I had the same problem. The problem is the small v-belt for the roller brush (Hoover part# 38528034). Although it looks in good shape, it's been stretched too large for the idler to keep good tension. The tension on that belt varies with the handle geometry so if you slam handle all the way down the belt gets stretched a little bit each time.
