Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

1 Answer

RPM fluxuates/pulsates Just did a 100 hour oil change. Air filter didn't look too bad so I just cleaned it. Now throttle/RPM fluxuates (or ''pulsates'' - revs up/down rapidly) UNTIL I put it under load. Under load it levels out. Also I can level it out with about 1/3 choke. Taking the air filter complteley out doesn't change it. Never a problem until suddenly now. Any ideas would be appreciated. Craftsman Mower - 24hp Briggs & Stratton - 48" deck - 102 hours

It sounds like a piece of dirt is in carburetor. You could try the quick clean first, remove the flywheel screen and the plastic engine shroud. The top of the carburetor will be exposed now.Remove the 3 small screws from the plat on top of the carb.Use air or carburetor cleaned and blow out these passages. Be sure to cover with a rag when doing this to shield your face from spray back.Test run and see if that helps,if not you will have to remove the carburetor and disassemble it to clean it.

Why does it stall at 100% throttle?

Not really, if the fuel is old or has water in it.

Sound like the new carb diaphragm. May be sucking air.

You covered all the bases, New Fuel lines, Filter and Cleaner

Try restricting the air flow coming in and see if it smouths out.

2.8l v6 in a s10 blazer. no head gasket problems thus far. wondering why my oil pressure gauge fluxuates? minor rpm change while oil pres guage does its thing why?

Oil pressure always changes with rpm.
At idle you should have around 10 psi, and it should max out at high rpm around 50 psi or so.
You not only can't have as much pressure at idle, but you don't need it either.

Try hitting the brake off and on to see if the rpm changes when you do that with the car in park. If it does, you may have a ruptured brake booster. A fluctuating rpm while your car is in park with the brake on indicates a vacuum loss. Other things may cause a vacuum leak including the air conditioner controls inside the vehicle. Other things that cause this may be cruise control or your Air Conditioners high idle solenoid.

I want to change the spark plugs on my 2004 chevy trailblazer LS. It stalled today. I already checked the battery, the air filter and the radiator. The oil was recently changed. I haven't had the plugs...

You can change the plugs if you would like, however those plugs last 100-150k miles. I would clean the throttle body and replace air filter. I have repaired this complaint many times on these vehicles. The throttle body becomes blocked by debris and lack of maintenance. Br very careful when cleaning. Make sure key is off and push hard on plate in throttle body clean by hand. This part is very hard to press has extreme amount of pressure behind it and you could badly hurt your fingers if becomes trapped under plate. You may want to have someone else there just in case you should slip or not be able to press and clean it at the same time.

Vehicle is used for mail delivery. outside temps in the 90s. two&half hours into delivery the engine stalls periodically. after few cranks it starts. temp gauge & radiator ok. oil pressure gauge is...

Clean your Throttle body with throttle body cleaner or Deep Creep made by Seafoam. When the carbon and varnish build up in your throttle body get's hot, it gums up the IAC (Idle air control) valve which help moderate your engine's rpm to keep it from stalling.
If the IAC is stuck due to the gum of the carbon and varnish in your throttle body, you have stalling issues which you have described. Start with that and replace your air cleaner filter since your going to clean your throttle body.
Good luck and be safe, thank you for using fixya and post us back.

1999 pontiac grand am 4 cylinder rough idle, rpms fluxuates

Most likely your throttle position sensor is faulty. You could have a vacuum leak as well. Most probable cause is a bad sensor. Is your check engine light on? Have you checked your engine codes? You can go to and register for full free online repair manual.
